This week I've had several girls mention their desire for a big, beefy man (in one case a direct quote, other just with minor phrases like "big strong arms"). The only girls I know that don't seem to want a big beefcake...want other women. Even the women-wanting ones seem to want beefcake men, with the woman standards being more flexible. Does this mean every time I see a woman with a small guy, short or skinny or both, that they have settled?
I have to start paying attention to marketing - not getting any younger, ya know. I've lifted weights for over ten years, and while I am often referred to as 'fit' or 'in shape' I realize I'll never be beefy or big (often meaning tall). Unless I pull a gattaca, I'm stuck at my current height.
So, the logical pursuit is to become more woman-like.

Date: 2004-06-09 05:59 am (UTC)Its a personal preference thing, and remember that who people say they want and who they will actually date are often two different things.
I mean, I "want" a brad pitt look a like, but I'm with Chris (who looks more like duckie dale :) and couldn't be happier.
I guess what i'm trying to say is, take what people say about things like this with a grain of salt.

Date: 2004-06-09 07:35 am (UTC)I used to date guys about my size. Then for years I dated huge guys, like twice my size (up to 6'9", 350 pounds). For the past few years I've mostly dated slimmer guys, about 6'. The one I'm with now is almost 5'8" and about 250. He calls himself short but he's definitely not small (48" chest and 50" waist).
Looks are less important to me than personality. But frankly, if I dated you, I'd feel fat. He makes me feel small and keeps telling me I am.
I heard on the radio yesterday morning that 96% of women say they find a bodybuilder physique on a man repulsive.

Date: 2004-06-09 08:54 am (UTC)Yikes, that = me + 2 inches in height & - 15 pounds! That's sounds unhealthily skinny, I think you look much better now than you would if you were 100 lbs & 5'6, hun.
I'm with Sir Mix A Lot & the whole "Baby got back" thing - 36, 24, 36...huhuh ONLY if she's 5'3...so cosmo says your fat, well I ain't down with that...cause your waist is small and your curves are kicking....
Curves are fun...and not just in driving! (I still must get you that metal-techno mix!)

Date: 2004-06-09 08:20 am (UTC)The tall-lanky-super toned bodies I thought were "beefcake" in my late teens and early twenties are the bodies I now want to FEED, I want to put meat on their poor bones.
I considered my X (the Tae Kwon Do instructor), (who you met) to be "beefy" & you are he are the about the same height and size.
Big and beefy to one woman might be 5 foot 7 170 pounds. To another woman, it might be 6 foot 350 pounds. And I am both those women, I LOVE them all! Short, tall, stalky, beefy, meaty can all = YUMMY.
Just because YOU don't think you fit the mold, doesn't mean you don't.....please go find a real problem to whine about (kidding!). You are just WAY to critical of your self dude!

Date: 2004-06-09 10:06 am (UTC)Just to be honest, and really blunt, the number one turn off a guy could do would be exactly what you are writing right here: "I can't find any women". Then if they decide they like you - you think _they_ are the one who is settling.

Date: 2004-06-09 10:19 am (UTC)I am so confident that I enjoy doing the most awful things you can possibly do! Next I'll actively whine that "I can't get laid" thing to really try and look icky. Understand this is LJ land - a place where I will not ever meet potential lovers etc. You make a good point, but hopefully one that is not applicable to me.
Or I'm just kinda high because someone kinda cute just did that turn-around and smile thing to me! I was rated!
