I just hung up from a woman who wanted to appeal the denial of her hardship transfer application. Her reason for the request: her 15 year old daughter is going to need (insert surgery here) for (insert serious medical problem here). It also turns out the 15 year old kid is about to have a baby...and after talking to her, I'm not sure if it is her first or not. My emotional reaction is to be disgusted with the mother, and that the child might as well be dead. A kid at 15? Not the first? I mean medical problems might just be an attempt by the gene pool to reclaim her to the drain at this point. I'm sure the mother is in great pain, and it's unclear how complacent she was in her daughter's mistakes in life...but...

and congress is trying to pass an act to keep that 13 year vegetable alive in Florida. Oi.

More importantly, Darwin's theory should not be applied to morality. It is an observation of how changes in populations take place, not a judgement of how they SHOULD take place. That was what I was protesting; the tendancy to project ones idea of MORAL fitness onto the idea of BIOLOGICAL fitness.
