I may be off-line at home for a bit - my internet connection randomlly stopped working. Verizon thinks it is related to the firewall that comes with update pack 2 for xp, but after uninstalling the thing still no connection. I also may have spyware on my computer, despite zonealarm, norton anti-v, and spybot. I also may just have bad tech support. Eh.

EDIT - well one tech support person refused to help, the other was very nice and helped me uninstall service pack 2 for an hour but was unable to fix it - but at 6am I got someone who just BAM fixed the problem. It seems my user name wasn't working, now it's fixed. Yawn. Xpac 2 was not the issue.

There are probably a number of people who read your LJ on a regular basis who:
a) Live in the area
b) Could do a better job of diagnosing and resolving your problem than could Verizon's tech support
c) Don't hate you. Not enough to not help with something like that, anyway.
d) Wouldn't turn down the future services of:
1. an aspiring lawyer
2. a buff piece of hot boy meat
3. (what else are you known for?)

Heh - yes I'm quite in the geek set :)

I just don't know when I'd have time to tackle this even with help. I might just say fuck it, I'm good about backing up - just do a system resotre.

I'm better at being a boy-toi than a lawyer, and that may well always be the case.

My thinking is that you might have someone confirm that the problem's on your end and not in your router, on verizon's end, and whatnot. Or maybe the local firewall just needs to be tweaked a little. All of that BEFORE running a system restore. Is all. That's about 10 minutes' work. Hell - if you can plug a laptop into the connection and get on the 'net, you'll have learned a whole lot from 30 seconds' work.

Good points (he says at school on the wireless network). I did hook up the laptop, and got he same error message - but the laptop has the service pack 2 as well. I'll play with it for a bit.
