The BMW girl is catholic. I found this out because I pointed out how funny it was that she was eating a giant kit-kat bar with a diet coke (she's very fit, and I do essentially the same thing). She said she was eating it because she had given up Twix for lent. Mocking from all directions ensued.

It's because Christ wandered in the desert for 40 days and nights without food or water. Giving things up are supposed to remind you of his suffering. It used to be that you fasted, no food or water on Friday and no meat at all. Now it's too hard for people and they only have no meat on friday and give up something or not.
