I'll house you
Nov. 8th, 2015 11:59 amAfter a week and 2 level 60 classic d3 characters, I recognize I need to do anything else. I'm officially rested now, and a great deal of it felt good. Really good.
I question myself when the house is...a year late. Why don't I make more noise? Should I? Would it help? I've come up with a couple nightmare scenarios:
- Jordan goes out of business, and my money goes poof.
- like above, but Jordan succumbs to drug addiction and simply won't perform. Suing will cost as much as I've lost plus he has no assets to pursue.
- Everything appears fine, but then DC won't pass inspection for x reason.
- DC won't pass my unit for inspection without a sprinkler system, which will cost 15 grand or more, plus be fugly.
However to all my scenarios is at least one answer, my retirement account. I forget it's there but I could cash in for emergencies.
Jordan informed me late last week the tile I picked for the kitchen, a year ago, no longer is available. He left samples in the house...and the kitchen sample is fugly. Oh here

The tile for the master-bath looks stunning. I think I found a link to the same thing at HD:

When I found out the kitchen tile sucked, I tried to find an old email about it. In searching through my old emails, I tumbled through my history...of bidding and losing the place, then getting it, then having trouble getting contractors to bid on the work I wanted, to selecting Jordan. More amusing was seeing how my original plans expanded...I was going to do the basement, and maybe the kitchen. Maybe. Scott reminded me I was going to run lines up to the 2nd floor for a theoretical master bath. NO REGRETS on doing the whole thing, just sad about the time it has taken. However as I review each decision? Would not change a one.
Well there is one I linger over - wouldn't change, but sometimes I wish I had done 2 large bed and baths upstairs rather than keeping 3 br. However, this would reduce the value and functionality of the place. As of now, V and I have our bedroom while each of his has their own office. We both work at home and take calls, so this is key. Also, syruppy sweet.
Someone asked me if I was getting a discount on the work due to the delays. Extensive delays. Well, yes, really I got 3:
1. a separate unit registered with the city as opposed to just a renovated basement. I heard one estimate, unverified, this was essentially a 15k savings/benefit.
2. Free parking pad, about 5k.
3. Free deck, probably 5-10k.
So I could argue that I've gotten a 10% discount or more. Or I could just mope.
I show up at random, not really on purpose, but like inspection not knowing when someone will show up kind of keeps people ready to be seen? In any case, whenever I show up there is work going on.
As of now, the upstairs is looking very house-like. The rooms have some switches, lights are in, walls and trim are painted, the floors look good (but need redoing in many large sections, oh well), and it's just feeling much more houselike. I'm getting excited, but the roller coaster of my house experience has me not ready to commit to feeling good about anything yet. I can picture myself living there though. Let's start with showering next to the white marble...(pr0n music cue)
