Nov. 5th, 2015 09:19 amI'm charged with making up a date. I'm confident! Only, wait...do what? I'm on vacation right now and am happy to play video games, visit the cat, cry at my house, eat out, and maybe do half a chore. Step up José...
Visited the place yesterday. It was unexpectedly exciting, as after Scott and I went over things, his brother showed up...and then so too did a city inspector. The guy was african and obnoxious as hell - the epitome of what people hate about government workers (not af-amer, african). I mean I knew he was an idiot when I saw he was dressed sharp, but then he opened his mouth and as I put together his accent into words I could process, I realized he was dripping with sarcasm and trying to inspire insecurity. He made a bunch of references to the last time "he was there," knowing full well I was not (I know this trick, when someone admits they don't know what you're talking about, act like they do because of the agent-owner relationship). I called Jordan who headed over, and then the nitwit's supervisor showed up. She spoke english, and while not happy with the place, was not a jerk about it. Turns out they were from...some DC dept. that addresses water/mud runoff abatement on construction sites (and there are 3-4 just in my block). So Jordan showed up, showed them what was done, and agreed to do more (hay, netting, nothing difficult).
As for the house, yeah, no fucking way I'm moving in soon. Not this weekend. NOTHING has happened on the main floor. The upper floor is being done, as is the basement. The closets are mostly done and painted, while the bedrooms are all painted and the 1 mostly-done bathroom (guest) is ready to be painted if some owner would just pick a color. I didn't realize there was clear-coat on a brick sample, but it was so clear it was invisible (and Jordan noted the brick soaked up the stain quick). So we still need to pick a stain, more tests on the way. Paint colors follow the stain for the living room and hallway.
I'm cat-sitting. It's important to give him some time to ignore people, food, and drink. We really need to get him a cell phone, though licking his feet has the same general effect.
In the basement the door is being put in and it looks like the main pipes are done. Outlets and switches are being installed upstairs - it's getting more and more houselike. Sadly I noticed a window-sill is croooked, but what I see is it's straight to the outside brick wall. The house has settled a lot and many walls are crooked so sometimes putting things straight to them is noticeable. I suspect I won't notice the sill soon, and I see there was no choice but to have the window straight to the outside, or inside (Jordan noticed for historical properties it is always a requirement to maintain the sill depth on the outside).
The guest bathroom is gorgeous. However the tub is chipped - I don't mind a repair, but if the repair is noticeable, I'll ask for it to be replaced - I didn't break it. I also chose elongated bowl toilets. Seeing the fixtures makes me really happy. I really really really like the way it looks.
Jordan seems to have backed off my moving this weekend. He says appliances should be safe in 2 weeks, but I'm not going to bank on that. I'm potentially screwed as thinking I was moving in I didn't update my partial tax payments to VA, where arguably I still live. That could hurt.
We mostly went over wires, with all the cat5 and coax going to the closet under the stairs (that used to be stairs to the basement). Due to internet, we asked to put 2 outlets in the closet and a shelf up high, so cable/fios modems won't be in the way. We also noted outlets in the utility room as a good idea.
Hey I won $6 in the lottery.
I have successfully slept past 5 am 2 days in a row, and drifted away from work obsession for hours. I believe I have succeeded in vacationing.
