I'm embarrassed to be from a country that has to reassure the populace that when the fucking power goes out it's not the work of terrorists. When the hell did people get so scared? Who isn't thinking this through?

Terrorist "Mua ha ha! Filthy Satan that is America, I have successfully sabotaged your power grid! Now you will be uncomfortably warm for hours! Death to the infidels!"

Idiots...

Well, it would be a pretty good first step, in terms of causing disruption and chaos. Someplace like Manhattan, which is essentially isolated, can be pretty damn scary without power.

This one looks like more of a cluster fuck than anybody could have created intentionally, tho. You'd think they'd have a way to run a nuclear power plant without needing external power...

Blame Canada.

even if it isn't an incident this time around, I think it demonstrates how interconnected many systems, such as the power grid, are. And, how, if you pick a day when things are close to overloaded, how what may be just a small problem can cascade into a larger problem.

Now, consider that large portions of things like the powergrid may have been built before the advent of the personal computer -- maybe even before the advent of the digital calculator.

Boy, I sure hope that guy with the hardhat and plumbers crack knows what he's doing...
