Per peregrin... http://xkcd.com/918/ re: facebook

I think I have a tighter rein on what the hipster douchebag reference is about. I see them, but it takes being around them in public after a few beers to really get it. More of them were at psychotronic, wearing a suit and drinking Schlitz beer, argyle socks pulled up to knees with shorts & sneakers, talking during the movie and laughing at their own jokes, oddly conversationally aggressive, buying $10 drinks and not contributing the suggested $2 donation for the non-profit group's movie showing, whatever they said to their girl-friend resulted in her storming off...irony I like, but just being...I can't quite describe where it becomes annoying. I like the nostalgia and irony, don't mind it when it just gets cliche, but somehow there is a suck in the hipster I can't quite quantify.

Janna wonders why I keep hurting myself. I had a good deadlift day and thought I moderated my workout, but yesterday it hurt to sit in my car seat to drive. I lift to get strong but don't use the strength for anything. I've tried to moderate the workout - I only work out about 1-1.5 hours a day for 4 days a week now, on a cycle that has 3 weeks of rough and then a whole week of down-time (very light workouts) (5/3/1 periodization). Still, I find even when I feel like dancing every 3/4 Saturdays I am too sore and weary to do much. Now my other elbow is screaming for no good reason. I'm trying to get strong while having a life and failing at both.

I'M HAVING FUN AT WORK
I have a case coming up for hearing soon, and preparing rebuttal exhibits to flatly contradict opposing witness testimony gives me wood.
I LOVE CATCHING LIARS!!! Rawr!

The problem with hipster doofi, like many other social niches that have expanded beyond their core numbers and into larger society, is there are only so many actually cool people to go around. This means the majority of any small scene writ large is going to be boring ego hobbyists who are playing dress up to try to fool you and themselves into believing they are cool. As much as hipsters worship at the alter of irony, they are ultimately victims to irony in that while they think they are in on every joke, they are in fact missing that the joke they are making is ultimately on them. And as you seemed to have noticed at Psychotronic, there is something particularly tinny and annoying about a lame joke, told badly by a clueless dolt, who thinks the joke and himself are both deeply clever and hysterical funny.

So...you've heard of them? (nice analysis)

Thanks. My up close and personal hipster moment came years ago at a Smiths vs Cure night at the Black Cat. I did not realize what I was in for and went assuming it would be a goth/emo event. Imagine my shock and surprise when it turned out to be hiptard central. Doh!
