I accused Janna of eating green bananas. She pointed out she doesn't want to eat them when it is yellow with brown spots OR looks like a giraffe. I eat giraffe bananas. Sitting in northside with her I drank 2 cups of coffee while she drank a small, a small latte. Small. For a dollar more more you can double the size, and if you just slam it down a beer bong...this morning I drank too much coffee but I did sip it. Moderation is more her strength than mine but I'm trying to learn.

Yesterday I squatted 270 for 3 reps which wasn't bad. While I did 5 sets of 10 at 200, and lost the ability to walk in so doing, a man beside me was doing reps of 315. Janna practically had to carry me up the stairs. Moderation? She's flexible and can walk, I'm acting as if at any moment someone might need a human car jack.

Remember this?

If you're too busy to read, it's a short story by Vonnegut about the future where everyone is made to be the same through government-mandated devices that make everyone physically and mentally equal. Smart people have to wear devices that blast sound at random intervals to distract people - bringing them down to the average level in the interest of fairness. We've achieved the same thing without coercion through ipods and iphones, disabling complex abstractions of thought through affirmation and distraction.

Harrison Bergeron is one of my favourite stories that we had to read in high school.

I was torn on it, to be honest. It almost reeks of rampant conservatism (this, from Vonnegut). I like the idea of fair, though this shows some silliness. I think the fact our hero declares everyone his subject/slave wasn't helpful. Still, he had a point in there that was worth making.

Ironically I distracted myself with a quick google search so I wouldn't have to remember the story on my own...ah, instant access and blinky lights!

I missed this, since reading it in school. Thanks for digging it up. Do you remember the one about the golden eyed Martians and the silly human housewife? I could never figure out why gender relations were going to step back into the 1940s in the distant future.

I don't remember that one, but I've always been embarrassed by the constant sub-plot in so much sci-fi of a 50-60 year physically unappealing old man with a 15-25 year old supermodel romance.

I was trying not to be addicted to MORE coffee by not having a bigger size and a 3rd shot of espresso . . .

and giraffes.

I actually got a single-shot large skim mocha the other day - they charged me for a small (nice of him).

I may scale back my morning coffee - especially when it is cold coffee season. Seems odd to fresh-grind and press my coffee only to stuff it in the frig!

Giraffe fashionable colonial garb!

But it doesn't start really tasting like a banana until it at least gets to that giraffe stage...

Strong legs!
