Last night we went to the Brewer's Art, but it was closed, so we did our first trip to the Owl Bar in the bottom of The Belvedere. My god - the place was so old-school fancy I think they wrote the constitution in that place. Janna disagreed with me but was unable to explain why later Benjamin Franklin walked in the place, making some silly retort that it wasn't him. Pshaw.

In my head I've counted Janna having 3 birthday celebrations. I cant' believe she's getting older, or that I'm not.

Last night I drove home from b'more and listened to NPR the whole way doing 1950s radio story broadcasts of...well the last one was Humphrey Bogart and someone probably equally as famous reading "The African Queen." The unintentional hilarity of the stories, from the local policeman who busted a Soviet spy ring (complete with hijacking carrier pigeons and the Navy blowing up a sub at local police command) to the African Queen romance and German ship sinking...only got scary when I thought about how many policy and war makers in high positions grew up with this as their cultural background. Funny - while the Germans were a foreign blur and naturally evil, they seemed to point to commonalities with them (a sympathetic German ship commander agrees to marry our protagonists, with a proper xtian bible, before their scheduled execution) compared to our new "Muslim army" of near apes who slit throats and rape children for breakfast. I guess that'll be archived from faux news. What mainstream cultural icons from today will terrify someone thinking like me in 50 years?

Also great were the commercials - Lux soap daily facial same as the stars use (my favorite endorsement there was Zsa Zsa Gabor) or "DuPont: Better living through chemistry!"

I'm not posting as much - I'm not around a computer as often when I'm not working, and I don't like making (or reading) fluffy phone updates or pictures without words. I think of things to blop in here, but don't have any big points to make. I'm not unhappy about being too busy living to write much, but I like the writing too. Wait, when did I start feeling obligated!?

eee!! I love the big broadcast! dave & I listen to it most sundays, especially when we/I've gone to my dad's for dinner and have a longer drive home in the evening.

they played one a few weeks ago that had me sitting in my driveway w/the radio on in the car so I could hear how it ended. it was about a woman who'd been cleaning up the house and discovered a letter that proved her husband's innocence. he was scheduled to be killed for his crime (that she knew he didn't do but couldn't prove until now) at midnight - in like, 45 mins from the time she discovered the letter.

the whole piece was her calling around, first to the jail to tell them she'd found the proof, then to the judge's house to get him to call the jail to tell them to cancel the execution, then to california to try and find the judge at a restaurant cuz he was out of town, then several other places - all the while time is ticking by and she's pleading with the operator to please hurry she only has 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 2 minutes until her husband is killed, please please connect the call, please please pick up, etc etc...

it got very intense, it sucked me in, and I would totally listen to it again. LOVE it. no special effects needed; just damn good acting.

They don't archive whole shows, but you can listen to each week's Big Broadcast online until the next episode airs.

Guilty! I waited until the break in my car, then came inside and turned it on here - waiting until the hilarity ended before turning it off and rolling into bed.

Yeah back before the internets tubes only the very best crawled and killed their way to the top. Funny thing about diversity - more stars, less impressive.

Also a big broadcast fan. Though don't catch it anywhere near enough.

Been trying to pot a little more, if just as an excuse to get away from more important things for a few minutes.
