May. 29th, 2010 10:50 amIn getting my KSAs together for the same job I am always rejected from at PTO, I realized that while I only passed the bar in 2007 (so I arguably only have 2.5 years of post-bar experience) I have been in this job as a litigation specialist for 4 years. 4 years, and I still feel like I just started. 4 years and I can just now kinda do what I'm doing.
So there are two jobs open for exactly the type of work I do - one in PTO, another in homeland scurity - not just DHS, but a group I have contacts in. If I nudge the least bit I should have a really good shot there.
But...what about the devil I know? I make good money and over the years I've built up one hell of a reputation. I have flexibility in time and location of where I work. I know key players and really understand our work in ways someone who hadn't been in the Agency over 8 years will have a hard time acquiring.
Is a promotion worth a change?
Is where I work going to get better or worse with the change in management? Will it always be a "screw them because we can" organizational climate? Does that climate really affect me directly often?
Meh, for now coffee and shopping.
Oh, scanned events and stuff and it appears I'm going to be in B'more for many weekends in a row.

Date: 2010-05-29 03:24 pm (UTC)Personally, I couldn't deal with the backstabbing and politics you've described. I think one of the reasons I'm staying put is to avoid that kind of office. I guess it depends on what your tolerance level is for that sort of thing.
I also agree with the above, management changes are a good time to just muscle your ideas to the front.

Date: 2010-05-29 04:35 pm (UTC)That's all I can think to say, really. Other than if you're enjoying what you do now, nothing wrong with sticking with it a couple more years to gain more confidence. But it does sound like you want outta there, so I say go for it.
And please do try to subvert DHS any chance you get. good lord.
