(Gay couple convicted in Uganda of breaking anti-gay law)
is why I call bullshit when people whine about immigration by saying "you break the law, end of story." Really? Some laws are bullshit and the immigration stance is inconsistent with say, give us your tired, your poor...

I acknowledge we can't just let everyone in, but I think our policies are perhaps too restrictive. I also get sick by some of the people who seem so liberal and educated in other areas, but who have this religious adherence to law when it comes to crossing the border. Sex, drugs, speed, all legal issues with that are just injustice...but immigration? That's the law, plain and simple.

Gmail's terminal theme is awesome! Looks like an old VAX-UNIX system, or an early ATM. Yahoo mail is still blocked at work but I try to check my crackberry - but my email name also works in gmail (dif account, same name just swap gmail for yahoo.

Why did my coworker just walk in muttering about "who the big fat guy is?" when he sports a pot-belly big enough to feed a homophobic African nation himself?

The U.S. has always:
1) responded poorly to successive waves of "others" once the population grew large enough to be something they competed for jobs with,
2) assumed assimilation and when ethnic or religious communities formed and would not be assimilated, they were (are) persecuted legally and socially,
3) let's not even go into how the more you bring with you (wealth, genius, patents, resources) the more welcome you are.

Oh yeah - classicist immigration policies are rampant. Give us your tired (of taxes), your poor (no, not really but you can have an H1B if we need something dirty done)

So in that context we're like Switzerland...

Yeah, most of the white folks who will brag that their ancestors came here "legally" don't realize that's only because there were no limits on immigration back then.

Or that they were invading the natives...which we now pay amends for spiritually by um...the movie Avatar?

Well, yeah, but I find that once you bring up the Native Americans, people shut down and stop listening to avoid guilt overload, but they might listen if you point out how the law has changed.

But the fact that the Mexicans we seem so intent on keeping out often have a lot of pre-Columbian heritage really kicks the irony up a notch, especially when we're already trying to keep them out of places with names like San Antonio and El Paso and, well, New Mexico.

Touche and good point about debate.

Had fun watching you deal with the ever-yelling issue of killing molesters yesterday. Briefly.

Facebook - a stupid magnet.

It was amusing to see how quickly the logical fallacies were rolled out. It only took two iterations before I was accused of defending child molesters.

Always!

Oddly, religion is not a choice. It's god given!

Yours in supporting mandatory gay marriage...J

A friend of mine got in legally and is trying to get his parents in but he says it's "too expensive." I questioned the expenses, as I didn't know that money is what got you across the border.

as long as people aren't carrying untreated communicable diseases, aren't dangerous and are willing to live according to our nation's fundamental beliefs (liberty for all, equality under law) i say let 'em in... anything less from anyone who's not native american would be hypocrisy.
