Management is issuing a warning to all employees about the spread of a new variant of an existing worm that affects Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Instant Messenger (IM) users. This Yahoo! Mail and Instant Messenger attack tricks the user into saving what appears to be a .JPG or .GIF image file, but is instead a worm that contains a backdoor allowing the attacker to take over the victim’s machine to install more malware, steal files, and intercept passwords.
To protect Agency computers against infection and potential spread of this worm, the Agency will be temporarily blocking access to Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger. Users attempting to access those sites from Government-issued computers will be redirected to the Agency Web Site or will receive an “Internet Explorer Cannot display the webpage” message. As additional precaution, users are asked to avoid using all kinds of Instant Messenger such as AOL, Gmail, MSN, etc., on all Government-owned computers.
It might just be about IM so I won't be affected, but they might over-block and get mail too from what they say.
