My personal cliche is "work is killing me" and the sub-plot is I'm helping it. The guy we hoped would come back the beginning of the year just woke up in a pool of blood...lots of karma hitting him at once - if he survives I hope he gains from it. For me it just means that soon...there is no soon. There is only further postponing when I can be working 40 hours a week and not fielding emails all weekend. For example - I took last week off, but volunteered to deal with the top priorities. One of those priorities was a meeting with the Administrator and 2 AAs, plus other big players, and writing various reports associated with all that mess. In short, my week off wound up with about 9 hours of leave taken (granted, there was a Columbus day in there).

Woke up with an injury with no source the other day. I am currently barely able to move my neck - stress and too much computering by chance? Want to make me grumpy - taking away my physical abilities is a fast route there. The thing that hurts the worst, oddly, is typing in front of a computer (though the pain is in my right shoulder/spine up into my neck.

I am still thinking this beginner gym program I'm doing is too beginner for me. I'm getting to the point where I am getting challenged, but my workouts seem so short. If I don't get the gains I'm looking for I'll move to something more like what i was doing but I have picked up some form pointers along the way.

M accidentally got me thinking about MD real estate again. I LOVE my condo and the area, but the fact I have to commute to work from there blows. B bought a reasonably priced simple home in Silv MD area and I'm thinking about that. M's peek to a 60k listing (that may be in error) got me checking out the sketchy areas around where I work in Beltsville. I see a place county-tax-appraised at 4-500k selling as a short-sale for 250k. A friend who works with a Dr that in a decent area of PGCounty, who was beaten nearly to death in a robbery after he quickly turned over his wallet, is begging me not to consider PGC at all. My job seems secure, but...does that make it pleasant? Maybe working home often is enough?

Janna asks me just enough if I'm always going to do this to myself to make sure it's in my head that...I promise everyone including myself this will not be my life.

The guy woke up in a pool of blood??? How does that happen?

Wound left open on purpose to "drain" due to infection acquired in the hospital (his 3rd or 4th - same thing that was the ultimate cause of my dad's death). Sounds insane, but it is quite common (see MRSA (mur-suh?))

Very common. Very well covered and documented too. Yet, doesn't seem to be stemming the reported cases.

Okay, yes, I've heard of that.

There was a guy who worked at NASA that was beaten to death in a robbery in the nicest area of Palo Alto when I lived there.

Bad shit happens. Where you live in Arlington is not immune to "bad shit happening". I heard of a few "bad shits happening" while I lived there. I also worked in SE DC where a "whole lotta bad shit happened" and generally I was unaffected.

A whole county is not "bad shit" nor is necessarily going to absolutely increase your odds of encountering "bad shit".

I find this an interesting statement. I don't quite know what it means tho :)

Jannna doesn't tell me what to do (she could, but doesn't). She does make small questions sometimes though, and is receptive to those times that I ask / remind myself / ask out loud why I do this and whether the idea that it will end someday is realistic. People don't usually just jump into work-slavery - it's a creepy crawly slippery slope. So I'm in for the short-term that has crawled with (his) absence to over 6 months...now I could do this forever. I like to be important, I like the money, and I get off on achieving wins and the like.

But I know that while I could do it, I don't want to live (and in my mind, therefore die) that way. I want to return to working so I can play, not working on this exquisite career to the exclusion of all else.

Janna asks me questions, or notes how long it has been, sometimes. Or when I talk to myself she may step in and agree. Good stuff.

Good for her. That allows you to feel as if you are questioning yourself rather than being questioned.

I became so emotionally invested in previous jobs. With this one, I consider it experience, income and a return on investment. I'm definitely only dating this job rather than imaging a beautiful honeymoon in hawaii with it ;)

I get the same pain as you do in the shoulder/neck area. Mine is due to crap posture while focusing on work, and the only thing that helps me with it is a massage + chiropractic snap (maybe a few, depending on how long I waited). I did find it helped to raise my chair height so my arm rests a bit lower while on the desk. Because of my stubby legs, this results in me sitting so high my feet don't touch the ground, so I tend to rest them on top of my computer tower. One of the guys at work says I should file a complaint to get my midget ergonomic rights addressed. ;-D

Thanks - that actually makes a lot of sense. I was hunched over the stupid computer, and I have that problem where desks don't fit me properly. Stupid giant world.

What you're describing commonly results from improper posture either from sitting in front of the computer or from carrying a bag (backpack, messenger, whatever) on the same side consistently. It happened to me while I was in college frequently. There are two pressure points around the top of the shoulder blade area that need to be released followed by a good old fashioned back rub. You can most likely Google pressure point areas. Easy to release. It's just a matter of applying pressure with the thumbs for a about 30-45 seconds. If you need instructions, call me and I'll explain in detail.

PGC is pretty socioeconomically diverse. I wouldn't let a case of violence stop me from looking for what would be a more ideal living situation.

Yeah that's too reactionary. I know that bad things happen everywhere, but I'm a general trends type of person. I just know I don't want to raise kids here - the schools are generally pretty awful.

I've had friends move from PG after living there for less than 2 years. Investigate thoroughly first, as I'm sure you will. Maybe an apartment near work for a while?

and looked into it on the internet...way too advanced for me, but i read a couple of reviews from people who had actually done it (they weren't affiliates) and they said because it's so intense it's really only suitable for very in-shape people who want to get past plateaus (i.e.: you):

Thanks for the reference but I don't really buy into the "new programs" as they emerge so often. I am reading material and on-lining with professional competitors and coaches of same for strength training / power lifting :) Ungh
