You know those religious wackos who showed up on your college campus to distribute literature - and how sad their little children looked with them? Turns out they may be the rape-creations of the right-wingers from the children they kidnapped to create their religious group!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090828/ap_on_re_us/us_kidnapped_girl_found
A little girl snatched on her way to school was kept hidden from the world behind a series of fences, sheds and tents for nearly two decades, even giving birth to her suspected abductor's children in the suburban backyard compound less than 200 miles from the home where she was taken.
The case broke after Garrido was spotted Tuesday with two children as he tried to enter the University of California, Berkeley, campus to hand out religious literature.

Hope his wife has a similar excuse...

He is obviously insane, but then it is difficult to deal with the crimes he committed. At what point do we not care that he's crazy because what he did was so evil? They can argue if he knows right from wrong - he knew enough to preach to college students, for one.

Like murder there is no repairins his damage.

I can't ever suggest rape as punishment... somehow, to me, it's like the highest (lowest?) form of violation.

However, I'd be perfectly okay with daily, repeated, vicious beatings.

I agree with the feeling, but I personally think it's horrible that there is such a thing as prison rape. Too many people found not guilty when we developed the ability to do DNA testing, and too many released for faked lab reports after then, for me to have faith in our system.

Not sure how you can even punish someone of this depth of crime. It's like a serial rapist/murder...you take their life peacefully, far short of "eye for an eye" compared to the harm they caused.

Yeah... and don't get me started on my run-in with a hobby site that had posters actually suggesting that 'real reape' be the punishment for 'fake rape claims'.

We're not fucking Congolese warlords.

Here's the problem: "Garrido, who was on parole for a 1971 rape and kidnapping..."
If a person is criminally insane and this violent, he needs to stay in a mental hospital forever. Make it wonderful, with meds and finger-painting and basket-weaving, but keep him away from innocent people forever. For those who just need therapy and meds to keep them from committing lesser crimes, the current system isn't humane: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/released/

I am against the death penalty because one innocent person being executed is enough to convince me that it's not worth it, and that threshold has been crossed over and over: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-tc-nw-texas-execute-0824-082aug25,0,5812073.story

Prison rape, while IMO suitable in a hypothetical fairyland where all-knowing unicorns hand down infallible verdicts for the worst of the worst, comes up against the same problem. It should not be part of official policy, and right now it may as well be given the neglect that allows it to happen. For those who may be rehabilitated, I doubt that the trauma of forced sodomy and the potential for a fatal illness as a result contributes much to therapy.
