Are flip-flops sexy?
Anti-sexy?
On girls? Women?
Boys? Men?
Pretty people vs. gnarled turtles?
I say turtles because turtles can be cute, and we'll all be gnarled or dead someday, grandparents or that age and appearance or whatnot

Date: 2009-07-24 11:47 am (UTC)And the idiots who wear them while biking or on scooters, not to mention to shows! Black Cat has a semi official ban on flip flops, because concert goers had to be carried downstairs with foot injuries thanks to broken glass or crushed toes

Date: 2009-07-24 12:08 pm (UTC)Hee... I don't think they would let me in if I were bearing them, even on a silver platter.
Flip-flops: I think they're totally inappropriate for work unless you're a lifeguard, have never considered them sexy on anyone, and actively avoid looking at mens' toes.

Date: 2009-07-24 01:45 pm (UTC)I think they can be sexy IF the person's feet are pretty (yes including men's feet) -- in that "I am not trying to flash you any skin, I'm just going out to get the mail and inadvertently showing you some skin" kind of way.
But as actual footwear I don't understand them. I can't walk in the things, myself.

Date: 2009-07-24 01:50 pm (UTC)I see flip flops all the time on my commute. you know, around crystal city and the pentagon and on the metro. EW. dont these ppl know that they are exposing their feet to oh so much filth?? not to mention how bad flip flops are for your feet in general, w/the toe curling and all. and the noise of the flop flop flop they make smackin' on pplz heels. it's just... unattractive.
dave: flip flops do not always guarantee no socks. there are toe socks for just such occassions. ew.
and I agree w/the above that sandals are sexy (given they are not just blinged up leather strapped flip flops).

Date: 2009-07-24 02:07 pm (UTC)Know what's really scary? Having to change shoes in teh gym.
See I think it depends on the foots. I kinda dig flip flops a lot of the time, but they really amplify ugly. On a cute girl they kind of give this "free" feel, like she's just one piece closer to naked and relaxed. Then again, I like t-shirts more than dresses for the same amount of skin exposed.

Date: 2009-07-24 03:06 pm (UTC)I just dont see how a pretty girl can walk out of the house in her fashionable tshirt, a cute cropped jacket, a fun skirt or shorts, and think FLIP FLOPS are going to complete her ensemble. why not cute slip-on shoes? mary janes? SANDALS. ANYTHING but flip flops. and yet I see them all the time, walkin' around the mall, far far from a beach or pool of any kind. it just... the ick factor really gets to me.
sure, I wear slip-on shoes most of the time it is warm, but by golly my feet are encased in a shoe, not flappin' up germs/dirt/who knows what onto my skin.
also, I am in agreement w/you that they reaally amplify ugly. lots.

Date: 2009-07-24 02:57 pm (UTC)My issue is that I grew up in developing countries, and if you could you DID NOT expose your feet to the stuff on the ground. That kind of imprinting sticks.

Date: 2009-07-24 07:10 pm (UTC)They only exception I've found is a pair of chinese silk brocade platform flip-flops. They're not water friendly, and I only wear them with an appropriately matching outfit to someplace like a friends house, never a large social outing.
Sandals are a different story. But anyone wearing sandals (men or women) should go get a pedicure before exposing the rest of the world to your feet. just sayin'.

Date: 2009-07-24 09:11 pm (UTC)I also wore flip flops when we went into the water after Old Rag to protect my feet.
I find flip flops far sexier than Crocs or *shudder-the-absolute-worst* UGGS.
What isn't sexy is folk that end up getting the bottoms of their feet just god awful dirty because of wearing flip flops on and off on concrete.
