YAY! My sister reports her daughter, my niece, is attending college. Oh thank giant jumpin jelly beans.

I mentioned I hate ceremonies (ok, don't care for them). Let me explain what I do like: little actions, things that reflect a real feeling. Here on my work desk is a little stuffed hamtaro doll. When I was sick, my mom, reading this thing, randomly sent me this as a cute little pick-me-up. Loved it, but didn't think much of it at the time. Now, every so often I look down at this stupid stuffed mouse and remember when my mom reached out to me because I was feeling down.

Similarly I have a stuffed pig in my living room. Come to think of it, for a dood I have an awful lot of plushies. That aside, my family didn't consider money an acceptable gift. A gift is supposed to mean something, show some thought from one person to another. A gift is kind of bleah if it's just money, worse-a gift card, or something you specified in advance. Well, one xmas I was perfectly happy with everything I had - and the only things I wanted were electronics. My parents couldn't get what I wanted as my needs were very specific, plus I was working and could get what I wanted. I explained that, and told them - honestly - I didn't need anything. So that xmas, I got that stuffed pig (it has a slot in the side - it's a plush piggy bank). They eventually had to tell me to open it - they had put money inside, a bending of the rules. The gift was actually the pig, but it just happened to have money inside.
