Help me out here, what exactly is a douche? I mean I have a picture, and if I call someone a douche there is generally agreement on the use of the term, but what is one really?
Is it a BMW driver with flip flops, sunglasses (spendy ones), and a white shirt?
Is it a guy with an open button down over a t-shirt drinking in Clarendon fake Irish pubs?
Is it sunglasses at night?
Is it a baseball-cap guy yelling in the street drunk?
Is it that guy trying to pick girls up with "the method?"

What exactly is a douchebag? It seems like a category of yuppie.

A delusional, narcissistic tool. He thinks he's the classiest, most desirable guy on earth, when in truth the opposite is true, mainly *because of* how conceited he is. Perhaps he is wealthy, hygienic, fit, and drives a nice vehicle, but women with any brains or taste won't give him the time of day because he is so clearly a jerk who thinks his existence does the world a favor.

Douchebags occur in every set, not just within yuppiedom.

It's just a certain something...kind of an intangible, yet inherent, quality in a person. When you think about it, it's sort of a special description because a douche is not necessarily a cocksucker or even an asshole (although those types can also be douchebags). It's not a direct action, and not just the way someone looks, but more about the attitude and the way said douche carries himself.

So difficult to describe, but so easy to spot.

I think of douchebag as a stronger term than just a subset of yuppie. It takes some active upsetting of the pH balance to be a true douchebag. We're talking cold vinegar-water chills.

A douchebag is a basically an ironic asshole. They know they are losers, but they believe that the methods they imploy to prevent themselves from facing this fact also convince others that they are not losers.

So it isn't enough to have a BMW to prove to other people that you are better than them. It must be a convertible BMW, with the largest chrome wheels that your cousin's auto accessory store has in stock. And the white shirt must be a wife-beater, so that the little people who you use the shoulder to pass can see how large your biceps are. Because certainly, they will come to the conclusion that you are a king among men, or at the very least that your dad actually loved you, even though he stopped talking to you after you repeated third grade the second time.
