I'm a cranky little thing. First off, I still am doing heavy rotation of metalocalypse in my car. Thinking of getting some actual metal. It's funny to constantly flip from head bobbing to giggles when some lyrics waft through the distortion.

Got to "parade around naked" yesterday while watching my weird friends get engaged. Fantastical conversations followed into the night. Based on an old-school chiaro-esque reunion, changed my mind about not hitting spellbound.

Spellbound sucked balls. I mean it was awful. I know I'm cranky - I'm hanging with good friends and that's lovely, but...
Why were izzy and I so intense? Neither of us was really drinking and our subject area didn't seem particularly crucial to either one of us - yet we were both speaking with the intensity of Rollins. Getting along fine, agreeing on everything but nuances but...just really intense. I think Chris was laughing at us (and that before busting on me hard for my inability to recall names).
I kept handing people my breathalyzer and they kept hitting buttons and blowing, for minutes, before looking up and asking how to use the thing (often not listening to the answer). It was obviously a normal reaction for that's what everyone did, everyone, but it bugged me. Not much, but...being interrupted a lot annoys the piss out of me.
But the music...fuck them. I blow like $50-100 a week in that dumpy little restaurant basement, but while I could forgive one set of shitty music, there was nothing but synth shyte for over 2 hours. 2 fucking hours. 2 hours of fucking synth pop. Hey, it really made me mad. Like I was raving mad about the shitty music. Raving.
I must have brought some of that in the door with me, but still...spellbound is going to be back-burnered for a bit.

At least I did manage to not drink much (measured!) and while I'm tired from winding up making a late night of it after all, I think I'm going to be making more less-drinky plans on Sats. Or, hitting apex and blowing off advances.

Hey, you know that rule about age differences? Is it half your age plus seven, and can you take out another ten after that? Coz...I mean she's on varsity...

So why'd you go?

...and how the hell do you spend upwards of 100 bucks there?

That is the trouble with trying to be a promoter for a dwindling scene. You want a balance of music that pleases everyone but it is difficult to find a dynamic DJ that can do all so you hire a bunch of different DJs who may only have one specialty in hopes of drawing their friends. Stupidly complex.

Thing is, it was Swank DJing, no? JUST swank and shade DJing -- that should have told you it was going to be 50% synth and extended 80s.

That is what is keen about Toronto. ONE DJ... I always know what I am getting.

ps, it is Kris not Chris.

Phone rang telling me a bunch of old-school chiaro folks were going, and I had no way of predicting the suck of music. Ok I guess I should have read the dj thing ,but I've never been there when there was no variation whatsoever.

$100 is buying others drinks en masse and tipping. It's not like black cat.

Just thinking that that would be 20 drinks @ 5bucks a pop. 12 drinks if you are tipping heavy. Dems alot o' boozeth.

a bunch of old-school chiaro folk were going
except one important one ;)

Apparently that's what the breathalyzer was for?

I've caught Shade's sets many times where he has played a very eclectic goth-rock set not necessarily from the 80s

I am quite familiar with Shade and very familiar with Swank's style (as he DJed for me), therefore I am accurate in saying that "at least 50%" of the music would be synth/80s as that is Swank's specialty.

I am also familiar with Shade's style, but was only speaking of Shade, not necessarily of Swank

You're not going to get any scene points/cred with this girl...

Yes, you were a cranky old man last night! I left myself in the middle of DJ Wank's second set. He went all '80s night at the Holiday Inn, and I hit the door. There weren't enough friends left hanging around so I could make my own fun. The way I look at it, last week was about as awesome as it gets these days, so it makes sense that last night would be a let down. Not everyone is going to want to go clubbing two weeks in a row anymore. We all too damn old.

And, you really need to stop pulling your breathalyzer out of your pants and asking people to blow it.

I'm not! Then again I'm demented so I probably don't count

Well thanky

for the nekkid hug. It was fun to stab a nekkid man! (What does that say about me? Crap.)

I am always down for Apex. I find it comforting to hide amongst that crowd. Besides, the bar can be a lot of fun.

I stopped going when I (mostly) lost my gays. :-(

As long as you remember your own name don't worry about forgetting names. You know someone names Izzy? I bet that is a nick name. Do you know what the real name is?

The person I know is Ismeal. It might be spelled wrong, but it's something like that. I'd never heard of anyone else with that nickname.

This is why I have it so good:

Because I don't particularly care about the music, whatever's playing is usually good enough for me. :)

Granted, there's some stuff that will be more likely to get me out on the dance floor... but there's nothing I've heard played that makes me distinctly unhappy.

What was a little bit of a downer was the lack of crowd.

Luckily, I'm easy to entertain. :)

2 hours of synthpop? I thought it was supposed to be a Gothic/Victorian theme last night? No Black Tape For a Blue Girl? No My Bloody Valentine? No Gothic Metal? *sigh*

Actually, Phil played a set right up your alley right after you left. Can't remember the whole thing, but I do remember Nitzer Ebb and MLTKK.

I dunno -- I actually had a great time last night (and would have danced much more, were it not for my touchy knee). But then again, I likes the synthpop very much. And any night where both Delerium's "Flowers Become Screens" and VNV's "Further" get played is a good night by my count.

I say again, I really liked your dancing last night - twas pretty. Seems you do more ornate movements when you're suffering. Goth.
