That'd be good for the experience, but definitely a lot more expensive. Building your own rarely saves money these days, unless you're aiming for a big gaming rig compared to the grossly marked up Alienware or XPS systems. I did a little pricing with newegg and the processor, ram, and HDs alone already hit $500.
Well yes and no - I'm willing to take smaller RAM as the price falls, lower pieces for things I don't care about. Like this thing has 2 huge HD I don't need. Still, nice deal indeedy.
