My dad sat in a chair yesterday - was respirator free for 6 hours.

I'm in Boston - wtf is there to do here if you're by yourself? I think I'm stuck...there is a chance I can change my flight, but if not - where can I go, what is there to do? Any suggestions appreciated - particularly if they're on the subway line. Lisa made some suggestions but...I've already forgotten because I'm a twit.

I ran into a woman (girl?) who has a MA in I/O and works around B'more. Neato...it's rare to find someone with the same degree. No surprise - she works in HR. Holy god I'm sick of my coworkers and union officials. I hate to say it, but the union guys are generally lazy, crazy, and annoying / disruptive. The stereotype has been reinforced by this trip.

Take the Red Line to Harvard Square. Tons of cool places to explore, shops to browse, etc.

Try to find a mini-mall called "The Garage" -- it's basically a shopping mall dedicated to freak interests.

Drink lots of coffee at Diesel? I think the placed that serve tea-oriented food closed. We had tasty crepes, though ... aha! "Mr Crepe" 51 Davis Sq, Somerville. Internet says Diesel is also near Davis Sq (257 Elm Street).

I guess what I'm saying is that when I'm somewhere new by myself, I eat, read, walk and people-watch.

Holy crap, it just occurred to me to check roadside america and Boston has much to recommend it.
Ether Dome, "the historic site of the first use of anesthesia in a surgical procedure".
Ether Monument
Hood Milk Bottle, apparently supposed to be a concession stand.
The Mapparium, "a low-tech experiment in optical overload that no one would have the time or money to build any more".
Warren Anatomical Museum, apparently having "a collection of oddities akin to Philadelphia's Mutter Museum and DC's National Museum of Health and Medicine." Including the skull and crowbar of Phineas P. Gage.

Clearly, you will need more time in Boston, not less.

How long are you there for? there is www.honkfest.org this weekend and a bunch of my random friends will be there! (Look for Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band - the skinny violinist with blue hair to her knees is my best friend from HS)

Mr. Crepe is so, so good.

But now I want to go to the Ether Dome.

yeah, I second this. Honestly, when I would go up for work I'd just go to the square and hang out and people-watch.

college student eyecandy for the win.

Thanks - that sounds like something I could do solo. Problem now is i'm roped into hanging out with my coworkers. I might ditch them.

Skip town, snag a rental car and drive to Canadia.

Just a thought.

I'm glad your dad was able to sit. That is great.

I'll try to ask my family if they know anything about Boston anymore, but it will probably be too late. I have family in Rhode Island, but that won't help you either.
