Sure you guys are out having fun, while I'm weeks into suffering 16 hour days of work and study, including the weekend. On the other hand, I paid off all my student loans with a check - and today I cashed out about 25k in stocks (including a 3-bagger). Nyah. Oh, and the people that don't think that's a lot of money, on this list, all work harder than I do and have done so for longer. So nyah.

I won't be paying off my student loans...until I'm dead. Does that make you feel better? And I work very hard.

No, I think you should make more for what you do :(

Me, too! Because we talked about it the last time I saw you, I keep thinking to post a link to our payscale...just for interest's sake. I'll remember eventually.

I actually sat down with the boss yesterday and told her that I'm looking at switching careers in the next few years, and that money was one of the big motivating factors. I feel better knowing that it is kind of out there and in the open. As long as I am teaching, I'm staying where I am, so she was happy to hear that, and was completely understanding.

I wish I remember where I heard, inaccurately, that a teacher in Arlington county with a Master's made over 70k anum.

Thing about being gov is your salary is visible to the penny on-line.

Yes, but not everyone actually looks it up. I have no idea where you heard that, but a teacher in Arlington county with a Master's *can* make over 70k, if they've been there for roughly 11 years. The thing is, they don't necessarily move us a step every year. One year they gave us a raise, but didn't move anyone a step, so it kind of negated itself. For instance, this is my sixth year in the county, but I am only on step E because they 'held' us back that one year.

I am on the master's plus 30 schedule (two masters in my subject area), step E. I will hit 70k in about 5 more years. I don't anticipate being here that long.

(teacher salaries are the 'T' scale)
