Holy jumpin jebus, what a fantabulous morning! I'm in indie heaven, really I am. Why?
I slept in. I didn't really mean to, hell I didn't mean to fall asleep last night, but I woke to sunshine and a room full of prisms that shone from the faceted crystal in the window. I went to the farmer's market, old-school empty milk-jug in hand. They weren't open at 8, so I hit Murky solo. Returning to the market, found they still weren't set up at 8:45 or so...so I wandered to the antiques/thrift section. I looked at some collapsing near-antique cameras, wood furniture, and as I passed a silver jewelry stand this bald chick says 'allo, and I say 'allo back.
When I wander back, the girl says hello again, and my name! I'm confused - she almost looks like baltimore Kim with grown-in crew, and reminds me her name. Honestly, I drew a blank for a minute...then I slowly cranked the brain into memory mode and saw her husband behind her. They were my roommates from the last apt I rented in London Park Towers - Kris & Casey! I moved out of that place in 1995...god the passage of time is creepy. We played catch up for a while - I told about some of the stories I tell about them(Casey being pissed off when a customer thought it was ok to use the term "Jew you out of a penny," and how they collected antiques but also weren't scared of using them). I also got to face my guilt issue...I told them I thought about them and wondered how much of a jerk I was when I lived there (more towards when I moved out). They either forgot, didn't agree with my assessment, or were polite and said everything was fine. Either way - it's been ten years and we were all thrilled to be reunited.
The horrible thing to discover was that when I lived with them, I talked about the possibility of going to law school. Honestly, by my memory I thought I just did the LSAT on a whim, and law school was a spurious but bad decision made on the fly. It turns out that before I made this bad decision, I considered it for a number of years. I had no idea I was into it back them. Poopers.
We swapped stories, seems like we're all less angry and more oriented towards trying to inspire positive movement into political, environmental, and other rational responsible lefty crap, rather than just ragging on irresonsible selfish jerks. I got to turn them on to the idea of a CSA.
Whore time! Casey is selling neat silver jewelry and has an LJ of virgogirl - I'll check the spelling later but I'm almost late for class. They're also doing something on myspace, blech!
Then I got bread from the cute pointy azn girl and the indie guy, who told me he liked my shirt, so we swapped www.dieselsweeties.com references for cntl-alt-delete. I got my farmer milk, crunchy breads, and wrapped up my really indie crunchy morning.
My worst post evah, but I am almost late for class. I just had the neatest crunchy indie morning though...right here in yuppieville!

Date: 2007-03-05 04:26 am (UTC)Casey is married to Kris Kane, who is Dennis Kane's cousin, as in my ex. Kris and Dennis look a LOT alike, because the Kane genes are scary.
The last time I saw Kris and Casey was at the Harris Teeter in Arlington years and years ago. They followed me down an aisle and were loudly whispering to each other if I was actually who they thought I was.
Bizarre.

Date: 2007-03-05 12:08 pm (UTC)I was thinking it is a small world - in this huge city, if you hold unusual views and engage in unusual activities (clubs, indie markets, non-starbucks coffee) you're likely to run into your "kind" over and over. Huh.
