The move went swimingly! I'm still completely time-crunched, with homework due tonight (a ten minute closing argument) and today's work still hanging in the balance, but as you can see the decision to move the moving from Sunday to Saturday could not have possibly been more validated. Nothing like an ice-rain turned snowstorm to make you feel like you want to be inside by a picture window rather than carying antiques and electronics through the weather.
I have some serious shouts out for: pennan who not only tore through the pre-cut quarter round in the little bedroom, but broke out a miter-saw and fixed my intended long-term project of putting up the right baseboard around the entire kitchen, all in minutes, in addition to helping lug many a load of stuff up the stairs. I owe you a really big something.
lightbringer23 showed up again, after having paid serious dues on the painting venture, and made some of the hardest things to carry go much easier. That's not to mention the deadly scrumps? apple cider!
30_stories_hi showed up coffee in hand and despite illness with
lionsden who both tag-teamed serious amounts of stuff up 3 stories high. Please let me drag you out to dinnery again as soon as we all feel well and have time. "You are the goon squad!"
lilu22 showed up again, despite having spent so many hours painting before, and despite having other obligations later that afternoon - dragging the helpful
nordiclizard along for some major lifting, and even calling later in the day to make sure everything was mostly-done.
and of course dhairya, who really helped at every stage and did an absolute lion's share of work. Thank god for her upcoming move so I can give some paybacks, but my god...Best. Girlfriend. Evah.
The move went really well, especially considering the stuff I didn't have time to pack. While dhairya and I started around 6 or 7, and
pennan appeared around 9, we weren't really into it until 10 or 11. We must have finished by about 12:30 or 1, which is just incredibly fast - and with little or no bumps, dings, or oopsies. Unpacking has been surprisingly easy, perhaps due to the lack of packing and
dhairya knowing where everything went. The house already feels like a home.
The girl and I had a lovely treat of ice-rain and pretty pretty snow, and took the time to look out the huge new windows. The views are incredible, just incredible. It's hard to believe most everything is already done, and the more we bounce around the new place the more happy we are. This was a good thing.
Thanks to everyone who tried to make it and couldn't, or would have but had other obligations etc. I've missed many a move during school and will just enlist you for the housewarming!
I lack internet access at home and may until May the way things are going. DSL didn't transfer as easily as the phone, and may take until March 7. The cable guy cut out due to snow, and I haven't rescheduled as things are so crazy. Work access is always skethcy, but may be my only on-line time for a day or a week or a month - who knows. My old phone # is up and working though.
