Did I mention that I swapped out my shower faucet guts with no hitches whatsoever on the day my place was sold? Then I put the tacks in place and reset the bathroom window cross-braces, amazingly w/o breaking the window n the process despite my hammer use? I was very productive, it's just I have more to do than me to do it with.

I keep finding things I like. There are hangers in front of both corner windows - hello plants! The oven has a digital therm. The sink has a control in the faucet that swaps the flow from stead stream to multi-spray. Even the water inputs were moved, with the hot on top of the cold cutoff and the garbage disposal nuzzled up with them. Hard to work on I'm sure, but a lot of work done which puts the crap in one tiny space and leaves even more for cabinets. At closing, she gave me folders...she kept catalogs the stuff came from along with receipts of everything down to the nails. Everything is a nice brand name. Her dad the engineer has put in an EXTRA electrical panel, due to their plan to wire the celing hard-wire (which I may do or have done some day). He made wiring diagrams of the whole house. There is one more electrical outlet in the 2nd bedroom than expected.

I find little problems too. The electrical panel is missing the cover and I can't find the thing (seems like it would be around). There is a cut phone cord in the closet - obselete or a future problem? The bathroom light is too damn bright for a hangover or post-relations shower, and is those weird bulbs that don't work on dimmers. I knew it had a crack in one of the mirror backings, but playing with it yesterday I've been left with the fear that they super-glued the broken light cover on, making it nearly impossible to remove without spraying glass all over the bathroom. The toilet has deep stains (or rust?) that will need addressing. The grout on the b'room floor will need serious cleaning or replacing (but this can wait, and rugs always help). The doors have very thick paint which is peeling. Most everything can be put off, and I'm happy to keep the maing living areas the colors they already are.

The thing is, I'm exhausted but too revved to relax. I was falling alseep in class last night, but couldn't get to sleep when I hit the pillow. 5am I gave up tossing and got out of bed. I don't feel stressed, but I act like I am. I think I have to recognize I am, even if I don't feel the...fear?...I usually associate with stress. It's like good stress, but at a horrible time. School is going to be a challenge. I'm trying not to take more time off work - we'll see.

Sorry for the non-moving, school-going, rennovating, job-freaked, and otherwise non-insane people who find this all quite dull. I'll return to theorizing about masturbating monkeys and the picture my boss showed me of his smoking-hot 15 year old daughter soon.

I'm sticking with this icon. I'm not single, but I still hate VD.

I'm married and I still hate V.D. (Both meanings, in fact.) After four years, I finally got it through Nic's head that I do. not. celebrate this stupid non-holiday, and after being mildly weirded out about it for about a day, he's decided that he's happier this way.

I wish Valentine's Day would just go away.

Bu how do I know you *really* love me if you don't give me a box of glutenous, waxy, additive laden sub par "chocolate" and a piece of compressed coal dug out of the earth by one-armed syphallitic child slaves?

If I've learned anything from watching tv, it's that true love comes from malls.

But Thursday is half-price chocolate day, which is the best part of VD.

Yum.

Half-price choco is worth the fuss - agreed.

Oh man this V.D. is going to be great. They're releasing that Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore chick flick which is perfect 'cause I'm a sucker for (a) '80s music and (b) chick flicks. As soon as I'm done teaching I'm walking over to the theater with my flask of James to watch the best excuse to get my bitter, ranty drunk on early this year. Alone.

I love Valentine's Day. Because I am always looking for flimsy excuses to go to El Pollo Rico.

You are one expensive date. Pity the poor man or whomever.

Well, I guess I'm insane because I understand your worries about moving into a new house that isn't perfect that isn't a rental because you will be responsible for anything that is wrong. I'm going to ask my brother about the wiring problem you're having. The grout will probably not be as hard as you think it will. I'll ask him about that too. He's really good at tiling and I used to be too, but I can't remember what to tell you about needing to repair it.

Don't bother about the wiring...that's just the phone, and I haven't tested if it is in use or not yet. For all I know all the outlets work. I have done minor work with a grout saw and re-grouting before - no biggie. Thanks though.

I take it back - I think I found that they cut the wire that ran along the wall, as I found the other part on the far end (that goes through the wall and into the other room). I may re-install it if the mood strikes - should be easy (famous last words).

Tonight my brother may have time to look at what you wrote about the wiring and floor problems and since he's an electrician he will probably be able to help you.

He did say last night that if you could find a dye that matches the color of the grout in the tile that you could probably just do a second coat over the first one that will be ok. He did say that if you had to remove the grout to start over it would take a really long time.

It will take a long time, but I think it's worth it. Dying it leaves the mildew or at least the root, and then it grows from underneath. My hope is to remove or vastly diminish the amount of unwelcome stuff growing in my house.

pannel cover 20 dollars, wall dimmer 10 dollars, grout stain 15 dollars , having a house you can live in priceless. btw this is paul michelles brother. all your problems sound pretty simple, like I said a new pannel cover at home depot shouldent be more than 20 or 30 dollars it comes with new screws. just make sure you buy the right brand. if your lights are too bright a wall dimmer is easy to install there are three wires a ground (green) and two blacks (hot& switch leg) in the wall there should be six wires two blacks, two whites, and two copper (grounds) take a black from the dimmer switch and connect it to one of the blacks and connect the other black to the black on the switch and your done. as for the phone wire if all your phones work it probably isn't a problem. if the mirror is scratched on the silver reflective backing it all needs replaced. the grout can be acid washed or stained depending on how bad it is. if you have any questions just ask michelle and I'll be happy to help.

Thanks Paul!

I wasn't sure you could buy the panel cover - that's good to know. The wall dimmers seem to range 14-20 for the ones I like.

I've scrubbed much of the tile now and it's coming clean...wearing me out, but with dangerous chemicals and my pain it's getting done.

Our wiring is old - we just have two wires, both wrapped in 50 year old plastic with cloth bandaging. It's almost creepy. The dimmers work ok on them, but the lights are halogen in the bathroom so I probably have to replace the lights entirely.

The tips are good though - appreciated!

for the grout try sulfamic acid it should come in crystal form, it has directions on the bottle. you can buy sulfamic acid at most tile stores, I don't think home depot or lows will have it. if you can't find it let me know we can send you some I may even have some left over. I used it a lot when I set tile it's less harmful than most of the chemicals, but you should wear gloves. as for the lights you will have to replace them, and dont worry about the wireing the old houses never have ground wires. you can buy plastic switches and recepticals if it's sometihng you're concerned about, but I wouldn't.
