I've made my decision!

PAINT - Sunday, Feb 18. (9 AM until done)

That's it. No monies. People who want to show up and help or laugh may do so. I think I'm going to leave hte ceiling as-is (it's white or off-white already) unless someone tells me that's an awful idea. I might even skip some walls if they look ok. Sat I'll go to HD and get paint and stuff. Or Fri night. I'll check consumer reports for paint to buy. Pennan's link to TOH helps a lot, as do all of your comments - thank you!

I figure the walls are blue in one room, patched different white in the other. My worst case scenario is I do a bad job, which will still look better than what they do now. I was willing to live with blue walls until Aug, so I can live with better regardless. I'm off on 2/19, so if I'm behind in school I don't really lose much as i can make it up.

MOVE - Sunday, Feb 25. (AM until done)

I will take all the help I can get! I don't think I have all that much stuff, but it will go faster the more people show (if any...or I have a shitty day). Armand's pizza and some sort of drinkies will be provided, sex0rz with the movee will (probably) not. Please let me know if you can show up - no obligation to though!

two things to consider:
1) when painting, plan for two coats for lighter colors (typically a primer and the main color) -- you will need time to dry in between, depends on size of the room and if you have air exchange through a window.

2) Set a time for your helpers -- or else you'll have people dribbing and drabbing in, causing more disruption than they are worth.

Just my $.02 having used the friends-as-movers many, many times over the past ten years.

Wish I could be there to help you paint and move. That sounds like fun -- really really exciting :) Glee! For real, contact Higgins -- he can lift heavy shit and he is like a mad machine. Good man he is.

Thanks - I think you have a perfectly valid excuse not to help in person :)

Hrmm. I should be able to help with painting, but there is no way in %#&! that I am impersonating a sherpa on my birthday ;-)

Holy cheese, if it is your b-day go do b-day things! Painting or moving furniture is not b-day stuff.

also, I just noticed the "no sex0rs" comment. How are we to stay on your friendslist if you won't put out?! *grin*

I will certainly be doing birthday things on my birthday, even if it is just eating bonbons in bed. But the week before doesn't really count... ;-)

For any stains or water damange you will want to use Kilz beforehand on the area to prevent bleed through.

Seconding Kilz...it's great stuff! (Too lazy to find the link back to my bathroom renovation LJ extravaganza, so you'll have to trust me on this.)

If your going to use white you want to have at least 2 coats. Depending on how dark the blue is you may need 3. You'll also need time to let the coats dry in between. My mom and dad both said that Home Depot has a decent price on paint and they would know since they have painted alot of houses.

I'm sorry that I can't be there to help you.

Let me get through this weekend and then I'll give ya a thumbs up or down. In addition to everything going on, I'm slated to drive to Richmond this weekend for a going away party.

I can't even think beyond 3 days at this point.

Your moving to your neighbors house?!? Wow. I had to dig to figure this out (I'm really out of LJ touch). I am up far too late tonight and not doing the workshop proposal that I should be doing, but now I know why. I'm glad I saw this.

I'd be happy to help! I'll talk with the boy and see what we can do. We are also in the midst of planning some big decisions. So, my free time dwindled to very little, but there is still some.

Hug

Ricky Gervais is the guy who created and starred in the original British version of the Office. He's also had a part in Alias and the HBO tv show Extras (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0315041/)

I rather like the song and the singing. He sounds a bit like Bowie. What's interesting is he appears so embarrassed about it when all things considered it's rather good.

More importantly than that, it's not even remotely approaching the direction his career has taken; and in both the Office and Extras he appears to focus on people who can't succeed or won't succeed for on reason or another and the comedy of it.
