This is why I think of leaving VA:

Ballot "Question 1:"
Shall Article I (the Bill of Rights) of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to state:

"That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.

This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage."?

So, are they barring all such contracting for legal status? Living wills? Probate? Insurance when offerred?

If it's really just an anti-gay statement with no enforcement, then the next question is why associate with people make laws just to show their disdain. You're never doing good when you make laws against things that people engage in voluntarily.

That's terrible. I'm sorry you have to worry about that. I'm actually surprised that my family has friends down here that are gay. It's very unusual to know gay people down here. As far as I'm concerned love is love and other people shouldn't get involved in who we love or why.

Decide you don't want to live in Virginia anymore? Say you're leaving to make a statement about the stupidity of this ballot question! Wave it in the faces of all your nova friends who are too wussy to up and leave.

Decide you'd prefer to stay here? Say you're staying in order to represent sanity and try and force political change; running away won't make this a better place to live. Wave it in the face of all your ex-nova friends who are too wussy to stick it out when things get difficult.
