Feb. 17th, 2006 08:13 amI don't really have a thing to talk about, but I don't feel like diving into work so...hey I got an autosaved draft notice while typing this! Go-go gadget LJ! What a good idea...
I got a message that my 6pm class was canceled last night, so I did a quickie 2 mile run on concrete - somehow avoiding pain and at a good pace to boot. Next I sat my sweaty ass down to blow up 16-bit aliens on Star Control with the genesis. I then showered and filled out the application for the job in Rosslyn. To top off the night I went to class in my "Play old video games" t-shirt (http://www.dieselsweeties.com/shirts/recycle357.gif)
I faxed in an application to that GS-14 job in Rosslyn VA today. If the other one I interviewed for doesn't work out, this is one hell of an iron to have in the fire. Walk to work? More money with probably less work? Wow.
Today I spend major money in the market. I'm thinking of doing
DELL - at a year low, reputable, and about to put out a great earnings statement that falls short of even loftier expectations so the stock will crash despite the great overall picture for this company. Risks include the basic fact that everyone already has a computer and the speed improvements are no longer important for most users. How fast a processor do you need for internet pr0n and MS Word?
INTC - intel chips are now in apple computers for crying out loud, and they also are at a year low. AMD is just not making headway.
Unfortunately, this exposes me to a lot of fluctuation in the tech sector again.
BBBY - bed bath beyond has good politics, incredible financials, and is also at about a year low. Risks include that they are the first to go in the toilet with a sunk economy, and walmart/target are eating their market. Still, I love the stores and that makes me biased in their favor. You can't get their quality for those prices anywhere else.
Boring edit:
I think I'm going to try and wipe the HD on my laptop and reload everything from scatch (never done this before). It's running very slow, has corrupted files, and just blows right now.

Date: 2006-02-17 01:26 pm (UTC)I would rethink that. AMD is becoming the choice of clustered computers because of their dual core model.

Date: 2006-02-17 01:34 pm (UTC)The thing is while that might be good for the company, I'm guessing a dual-core clustered computer demand is not going to come from the general consumer market.

Date: 2006-02-17 02:06 pm (UTC)That is true - but when clustered computing brings in hundreds of chip orders per unit at the high end of the processor scale it does matter. Look at the two stocks and remeber that stock prices are forward looking. Sure - you can get INTC cheap now after its sell off of a few weeks ago, and I'm sure you will make some money there...but AMD sure is making some headway, and their stock price will reward that.

Date: 2006-02-17 02:13 pm (UTC)Then again I thought GOOGle was a bad buy at the IPO of $100, insane at 200, nearly shorted at 300, and now it's down to 366 from it's high of 475. I can't make any sense of that.

Date: 2006-02-17 02:32 pm (UTC)I put money into CCJ and ZUMZ about 4 months ago before their big run-ups, and both of these stocks are places I'd continue putting money into.

Concerning HD
Date: 2006-02-17 02:32 pm (UTC)Good advice if I can do it
Date: 2006-02-17 05:11 pm (UTC)Even while I'm doing this, my other computer is up and running just fine, so I won't lose connectivity no matter what :)
Good point about the firewall, but how do I do that w/o connecting to the net? I just have a dsl modem and not a firewall except through windows and the zonealarm.
Crap I never got a lan-bipass-card and my lan connection is wacked.
