Some chick is kidnapped in Iraq - was she a journalist, a fundamentalist christian missionary, or both? The media keeps downplaying the fact she wasn't a journalist, she worked for the newspaper published by a church — The First Church of Christ, Scientist. I'm sorry - if you try to spread your religion in an unwelcome area full of violence and hostility, it's not brave, it's foolish. If you try to push your beliefs on others, you don't deserve sympathy. I mean if they can save her by all means they should, but only because the kidnappers are more evil than she is. She's no innocent.

I still have a mystery pain in my shoulder/arm/neck that is kicking my ass. I'm amazed at how quickly I'm getting used to constant pain - big deal. I would like to get rid or it or find out if I can work out despite it though.

Work and school are insane right now. Happier with eBay. Not really doing my LJ. The parts of my weekend where I wasn't working were insanely wonderful and I'm muchly happy.

Dude, I'm gonna have to totally disagree with you about the Jill Carroll point. As an atheist, I abhorr someone shoving religion and dogma down my throat. I used to skip over any article by the Monitor until I saw a headline on how Vermonters were seriously thinking about seceding. Since I find the legality of seceding fascinating, I read the article and found it, (and later, many other articles by the Monitor) to be extremely objective and not right winged at all. The Monitor does publish one religious article a day on behest of the original founder, but it remains a unique source for news stories as it is independant of wire news.

Jill Carroll is a freelance reporter. I've read several of her article in the Monitor as well as other publications. Please point out to me the evidence that she was in Iraq to be a fundamentalist missionary because I didn't get one whiff of that from her work.

You're incredibly smart and often have stark points of views that are truer than from those of us who like to see the world in rose hued spectacles, but sometimes, I think you're too angry to be fair and you lose objectivity and the big picture; A girl who cares about the human condition went to Iraq to report on the conditions of Iraqi's and what they are up against has been kidnapped and her life is threatened. Any one who goes to Iraq voluntarily is arguably stupid, but what better reason than hers? I find that admirable. What are YOU doing to make this world any better but bitching.

I posed it as a question, rather than state it as a fact. I feel no reason to tip toe around an issue that has only been presented one way. I care about the human condition too, but I donate money to causes (non-religous ones). Perhaps it is admirable, but I don't know her from "Eve."

Watching the anti-abortion supporters spew their views on the news (try saying that three times fast) is infuriating. "Public schools are teaching our children about safe sex and are giving them free condoms. Our kids should be given the choice to procreate!" Their logic hurts my brain..
