It appears you're not supposed to go to the men's section and smell the belts. Who knew!? I mean there wasn't a sign or anything, and the place is just south of DuPont Circle. I decided to swing by Filene's basement after getting my hair cut by Joao. Last week I was excited about my new Ikea light (which I still beam at more than daily, oh my lil hörby is so pretty!) and this week I bought a new black belt (and some cute little Kenneth Cole cufflinks shaped like jigsaw puzzle pieces). It looks the same as the one it's replacing, only a flat rather than shiny black. It. Smells. So. Good. It also has just the right texture, very high-quality leather. I kept feeling it in the store - it was hard not to just crack it over a nearby rack. This belt has ass written all over it - sure it's a bit short but the flex is dead-on. I get to wear this all day, over boring clothes, just knowing.

I've found places like Leather Rack to be a bit more... accepting than places like Filenes. And the belts last a heck of a lot longer. Have one from Leather Rack and another from Mr S in SF. Both have lasted for years.

Mr. S (and Madame S) just moved into one large store! I was there on monday. I hate to say it, but it's too bright and open and retail-y. I liked my Mr. S dark and just a little bit scary, I think.
