Sep. 8th, 2005 03:14 pmI have a friend at work that I counsel, in part because her social and office-political skills are so poor. I know someone else who is perhaps just as poor socially, but who is actively disliked by many. The difference? My friend is genuinely nice, while the other is a nasty bitch who turns her insecurity into a need to lash out at others and treat them as if they were a lower life-form than herself. It's very obvious, though she has the saving grace of rimming anyone above her like mad.
So, if you are nice, social skills are not so important. Who you are will shine through any learned behavior, and over time people will recognize who and what you are over how polished you make your presentation. I hope.
