Last night as promised I did nothing. I had to fight the urge to go shopping or running. No, I had spagetti from a pot with sauce from a jar, and instead of working out I had a napoleon and chocolate rum log for desert. I sinned and it felt good, so good. I looked at other sins, things I don't need. I don't need a new car. I don't need a stereo for my present car. I don't need a new stereo or a plasma screen. I looked at everything, got nothing, and made no decisions. I think I should have watched tv or played a game instead.

Link salad!

My stocks are doing absurdly well - I may be a motley fool convert. http://www.fool.com

Listening to Bjork...I know she did the pedophile lyrics in the Sugarcubes ("He wasn't really all white and fluffy, he just had sideburns"), but I think hearing her music now, her voice makes a lot of promises with more sincere appeal. She's just nuts enough to give you all the dreamy escape of a girl only from an adult. Insanity has that appeal I suppose.

I'm sick of protestors on and off line. Hate the Iraq war as much as you want, I cannot believe the answer is to yank our troops out now. We sinned, fine, but to leave now and not attempt to repair the damage seems irresponsible to me. America started something, and it doesn't seem right to bolt without cleaning up our mess. I've never heard anyone argue that pulling our troops would somehow help Iraqis. I hate dubya, but I don't think he has a real reason to talk to the dead soldier's mom. For PR reasons he should, but for precedence he shouldn't. At least that mother of a dead soldier has a right or reason to protest. How can you argue with her feelings? Of course the only people that piss me off more than protestors (non moms that is) are supporters. WTF does support our troops mean? Vote for Bush!? Cheer? Calling the cops if you see a long-hair with a backpack? Pay extra taxes? Go to church? What an empty promise that support is. I'll tell you how to fucking support them - do your research and vote in the next election, start local and go larger.

Here is a GREAT ARTICLE about why people support the war in great numbers - because it doesn't affect them. The economist refers to moral hazard, usually complaining about how we waste tax dollars on things we'd never pay for if we had to see the cost directly. Here, Reinhardt describes how the steadfast American resolve is by and large the result of not having anything at stake.

Man kills his 3 year old son to prevent him from being gay, information about motivation comes from father's bible study partner:

Speaking of rabid anti-gay stuff, remember the huge anti-gay rant/speech from the preacher at the church that the mayor-for-life attends? It turns out that he made the whole thing up - his factual comments do not stand up to a quick fact check (duh again).

I have a nuerotic friend at work who voiced interest in seeing my "blog." I want to show it to her, but because I write about work I've just avoided the subject. I trust her integrity to keep things to herself, but not her technical prowess (what if she linked it and let people use her computer) or her common sense (what if she walked away from the computer with it up).

They seem like a nice bunch, but it also seems a small group and not financially ensured by virtue of their small size.

I heard on NPR the local cops were sent out to roust the mother, but instead he offered her a place to park her car.

Well, he got his wish. His son won't grow up to be a sissy. Or at all.

I think that there is an argument to be made that our presence in Iraq is not making, and indeed, CANNOT make, things any better. A certain amount of the violence is directly related to our presence there. I'm not saying that Iraq will settle down into a liberal democracy if we pull out. I'm saying it's not going to settle down into a liberal democracy at all. If we stay, foreign terrorists are going to keep streaming in and blowing shit up, and I still contend that terrorism of that sort cannot be defeated by force of arms alone, even overwhelming force. If we leave, the country will collapse into civil war. But at least our kids won't be getting killed in the process.

It's a rather cynical choice, but the situation requires a degree of cynicism. There is a reason it was Nixon who got us out of Vietnam.
