If long posts are rude in LJ land, please let me know and I'll just put the subjects in the event section and then post my real writing in the comments section. Fuck the learning curve.

My new job sucks. I'm pretty much convinced of this. I can do it, and may be given enough time to learn the job without destroying my personal life, but it still sucks.
1. All we do all day every day is discipline people. I like this on the one hand, having had employees who should have been booted ages ago that I wasn't allowed to discipline, but this is going too far. Our biggest current business is suspending people for 2 - 4 weeks (no pay) for misuse of the government credit cards. Most people have NO IDEA they are restricted in how they use them. We point out that they sign a member's agreement and it's in that. Um, I've never read one of those silly things myself. So, they are poor (we usually find out because they can't make or miss payments) and we cut them off financially. Nice.
2. The boss-boss is a creep. He works 14 hour days and is known as a slave-driver (quite the comment for a black man). Everyone around him is nervous. He is the one that says we are issued cell-phones in case he decides to contact us - and that they should be on 24/7. Um, this is a government job? He is very arrogant in his demeanor, and insanely demanding in the office. He introduced me to someone the other day, and immediately started to verbally abuse him for some aspect of his work. Not a good sign.
3. Turnover is hilarious. Now I know why they hired me - they have lost 75% of their staff in the last year. It's a firing factory, and only a really sick dweeb seems to enjoy the work.
4. Me, I'm being given no training outside of being provided with manuals to read and cases to do. I have no idea what they expect from me at this point, but I'll be happy if I can learn how to use the phone. I have figured out how to do one thing - put the phone on vibrate and sit on it.
5. They routinely screen police reports and see if any of our staff have been arrested - OFF THE CLOCK. They practice the 'higher standard' of government employment in all aspects of the job. Case in point: an employee was terminated for using a small amount of pot off the clock. This could reflect poorly upon the agency, thereby affecting the ability of the agency to conduct their mission, so termination is required. Get a fucking grip here!
6. Icing on the cake - my not-at-all-motivated friend just applied for and received a gs-14 position without even interviewing. I saw the vacancy but thought I should try out the new place rather than keep job-hunting. Kick me in the head, will you?

So, I'm back to hunting again. It sucks so bad to job hunt, so bad I can't even speak.

Law school - well it's no big deal but I STILL need to write a statement of purpose. That’s what I’m busy not doing right now!

I've read some and have outlined a few things to focus on:
a) worked through school (my gpa was only 3.5, not impressive), studying while in work
and received another degree
b) Civic friggin Joe: Marched in civil rights marches as child, Marched as young adult, Work in gummint, Condo board, Recycle – I’m a hippie who hoo! That’ll keep them from letting me in
c) Law probably won’t change my income much, certainly not enough to justify the expense, except in the long- term view which includes retirement (wow I’m so fucking dedicated WRETCH)
d) Team player, Always excelled (CO year, 100k, 1mil as sup),
e) Gym – I’m an extra-curricular stud-muffin

So…I’m just not in the mood to write this drivel right now.

I also won’t know until next week which condo I’ll be living in, and if I’ll have tons of cash lying around or if I’ll be cash poor for the next 6 months or so until the super-low cost of living starts showing real results.

A vacation…an end to all the misery I keep causing myself, that’s all I’m looking for here. God only knows how much my life will suck when I start law school.

I better grab a lotto ticket

::hugs:: Is there anyway you can step in and help clarify both procedures and regulations? Maybe you can do some good while you're in the position?? Okay..just me being optimistic for ya.

Keep job hunting you never know when something good might pop up..right?

We must hang soon...do something silly like tacos or somethin'. ;)

Maybe be all catty and poke fun at the folks doing karaoke at Freddie's in Arlington? K, just a thought :) You *know* I'm tone def and would enjoy the live "star search" heheh.

BTW...have you been to Harris Teeter in Pentagon City? It's 24 hour (get the VIC card...makes a big difference price wise...use a John Doe addy)..and brimming with hotties ;) I had a few walk into displays while I was shopping..how fun! These red star jeans really ummm....get me into trouble..hehehe... that or the shirt "Good girls are bad girls that never got caught...". Can't decide which is the evil aspect but it's workin' ;)

Hang in there honey!!! ::hugs::

You do a summarized post and then link to the long-winded bits with the tag [lj-cut text="Description of linked bits here"]and then the text [/lj-cut]. With < of course.

My new job sucks.

All jobs suck, that's why they're called jobs...
