From a legal standpoint, his ruling was correct, even if it does benefit people who suck. Using RICO to go after pro-life groups was a real stretch, and as a precident posed a serious threat to OTHER political movements, should they become unpopular with the authorities at some point.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that the specific actions in this case (using violence and intimidation to block access to clinics) weren't criminal, just that they didn't constitute an interstate conspiracy to EXTORT real property from people. The protesteres should have been charged under state laws, but not federal racketeering statutes.

I understand, and the 8-1 vote pushes it out of the range of usual decisions from the recently stacked court. The same statutes could then be used, say by Ashcroft to shut down organized protests against war-for-oil (tm)
