Grump grump grump.
Shut the fuck up about dead people. I really enjoyed watching the news, even all the bad news, over breakfast every morning. I finally had to stop when I couldn't take any more "Terri" news - it was just too annoying, too unimportant, and too repetitive. Now they struck the magic man with the funny hat in the forehead three times with a silver hammer, confirming the medical diagnosis that some old guy who told married people in Africa that condoms still spread AIDS is dead. This is the second time in two weeks that the country (and in this case the world) is freaking out over someone THEY NEVER MET. There was a pervasive story before this one. Instead of news we get the latest insanity, the latest fixation, and hear nothing but people riding in the wake of tragedy to try and garner their own fame with crying and candles. Shut up, shut up, shut the fuck up.

Is anyone else hearing the weird things and rituals the catholic church does finding that the South Park episode was more accurate than they realized? I mean I hated the religion based on its current statements, policies, and practices...but I had no idea how fucking spooky they were. Satanic cults act less bizarre. "Bang bang Maxwell Silver Hammer came down, on his head..." Now they await the magic smoke to come from the special smokestack that shows a new leader...what, the mike is broken? Trying to save paper?

All I want to do is watch the NEWS while I eat my damn bagel. I want to hear the weather, the price of oil, who blew up, what crimes took place in SE DC and PG County, and what leader said what yesterday. That's all - just things that might effect my life. I'll concede that the pope dying is news, however the constant stream of mourners, local, national, and international pictures of people whining about the event is NOT NEWS. I guess the answer is TV is only to be watched for entertainment, and my talking head fix will have to step aside for internet sites and headlines. But, I live alone and like to hear voices when I eat my food.

Well it's just one thing after another. Journalism is dead, and so is being given information whilst I eat my morning bagel. Why does society have to ruin my productivity during bagel time? Why?

I really feel that I did know Terri, through her on-line journal: [livejournal.com profile] terrischiavo

In all fairness, the Pope told people in Africa nothing of the sort. Low-level priests and bishops spread those lies, not the Holy See, and, if memory serves, he condemned those lies after he found out about them.

As for the ritual of the church and how odd it seems to you...frankly, dude, shut up. It's a series of 2,000 year old traditions, and frankly, your ignorance and close-mindedness is giving your fellow liberals a bad name.

Thanks for stopping by.
I was not aware of (your claims regarding africa) nor do I think it is reasonable for me to do research beyond the publicized news of the actions of the church. I don't subscribe to that belief system, and consistently what I have heard about the church is contrary to my views. Even so - my beef is principally with the annoying news coverage of the mourners.

Liberals? Even if I fit that definition, I'll be damned if I'm going to be saddled with the burden of trying to be their spokesperson.

2000 of traditions don't deserve mocking only because it should be so painfully obvious that anything that is defended as being a tradition is inherently pointless. There is no point to arguing such.

Well, I dunno...if you're going to go around lobbing accusations at the spiritual leader of over a billion people, you might first want to make sure that he actually did do what you're accusing him of doing. In this case, he didn't.

I honestly expect more from you than this type of ignorant close-mindedness.

I'm sorry, I've been more-harsh in my criticisms than I should be. But in all honesty, if those of us who oppose religious zealotry can no long see the difference between the spiritual and the fanatics, then we're no better than President Bush and his black-and-white view of the world.
