Ok I was actually getting a little depressed - feeling alone as I was stuck in the snow and the phone didn't ring...the email didn't pour in...

Oh god stop whining he said! I went out and shoveled four buildings in my area for about 2.5 hours just a) coz it's a nice thing to do for others b) since I couldn't hit the gym if I wanted to. Oh, I helped PUSH SOME IDIOT IN AN SUV BACK INTO HIS PARKING SPACE WHEN HE COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE PARKING LOT!!! On the other hand, some total jackass left their green VW bug (new) in the middle of the street where they got stuck, and did not even dig it out at any point throughout the day. Who are these inconsiderate jackasses? (Honestly: I didn’t realize some of the new SUVs have about the same mileage as cars. If the mileage is reasonable I have no problem with SUVs, except for the idiots who buy them because they are in vogue)

When I got back in I was DEAD tired, but felt slightly accomplished. Note to self - while normally it’s hard to target the hamstrings…shoveling snow is the bomb baby! Then walking through knee-high drifts finishes the leg damage. BOOM the phone rang, and it was a friend from up the street inviting me to a 'anyone who can make it here gets food' party! I said oh hell no, I was too dead tired…but a nap later and I changed my mind. Most of the crew was from my boxing class, but I did get to speak to a girl from Costa Rica too. We sat around and agreed on politics in general, exploring and learning from our differences despite the fact we were essentially on the same page. Then Al showed up: Mr. Conservative. Al is big, has always been big, athletic, has always been athletic, a fierce fighter, and highly conservative. Al is however, the type of conservative that doesn't piss me off. He does volunteer work every week w/o fail in SE DC, and does basically care about people. His opinions were strong, but made for a fun bout of debates with no one being rude or getting mad LIKE GEEKS ON-LINE DO!!! I was surprised how much sense he made. His one big fault was probably how he broad-brushed liberals.

Speaking of lunatics: [profile] n8_zilla took the time to cook a fucking backyard bar-b-que, you sick bastard! Illegal hibachi use there buddy!

WAR: I’ll be honest and say I’m 100% glad I don’t have to make that decision. I have many opinions on the subject, but I’ll just give one simplified point each for and against.

AGAINST: the US hasn’t invaded a non-attacking country in significant numbers since the Mexican-amer war. It’s hard to justify attacking someone that essentially says they don’t want to fight and will do whatever we say.

FOR: we let Iraq out of the last war without finishing them off, leaving SoDamnInsane in power, on the conditions of the UN resolution. While the UN doesn’t seem to approve violence right now, it sets a bad precedent if you are allowed to surrender – and then don’t have to bide by the terms given at the time.

When I got home, I had trudged and slid the whole way back and was quite pooped again...but had the great joy of having an easy stomp up into my building due to the work I had done earlier in the day. I thought about how many others got to benefit from my work and felt good all over again.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have on-line video games to play!

Sounds like you accomplished quite a bit and are justified in your warm glow (and cool glow of a cathode-ray tube radiating whilst you annihilate online alien fiends, LOL) . . .

My main problem with SUVs ASIDE from the mileage is the fact that, if you drive a normal car, you can't see over/around them . . . I hate being stuck behind a giganto LandBarge and not even being able to *see* if the light is red or green, much less traffic conditions on the road in front . . .

Yes, I understand that it's the same with large trucks, but I honestly wish that truck use was restricted to people who actually have to HAUL things on occasion!!

-- Andi, who responds to the 'but I need lots of storage room in the car' argument by pointing out that I can get a troop of Girl Scouts AND a drum kit into my station wagon, which gets excellent mileage for a larger car! ;)

yay...

thank you for realizing that shoveling snow is both useful and good exercise! i can't believe the folks who are complaining that the weather is keeping them from getting to the gym!

I have done enough snow shovelling in my lifetime. My quota is filled. I completed it early now i should be able enjoy my time off for good behaviour. There is a time, that comes, to every Canadian, where we can say : "ha! i live in an apartment now! daddy you can't make me shovel snow annnnnyyyyymore!"

I think backyard jerryrigged bbqs are uber keen! We did one, one summer with the grill from the stove and our hands diggin' out a hole.

I think a party would be a nice thing right about now...
