Oh dear. My old boss is back, and I quizzed her on why she came crawling back. She went from a high-pressure 14 to a GS-13 over at Patent. My god. She explained that it was just too slow. She was given a project to create a new directive, with no deadline. She finished in about 3 days, and they were shocked. She was told to submit it for a review, and she asked how long a turnaround time to give. They were confused by this concept, but eventually came up with a 90-day figure.

About boredom she said "There is only so much internet."

Well, my black ass (I'm black every so often for effect) is in law school, and the thought of having time to kill at work gives me an erection. Puh-leez give me that low-pressure job. I just...I like it here. Am I nuts, do I look, or ... I mean it's really bad on a day like today, when the prior day I've run around creation and hell with [personal profile] kelowna making the cold woods our bitch. I think this is the kind of weekend I could have if I were able to do my studying, or some of my studying, at work. Bitch of a son...

This morning the death toll is around 20k. I have been thinking about the difference in the emotional impact about this disaster vs. 9/11. What was that, 3k? 4k? Is it that they were rich and these are just peasants from shanty-towns? Is it that they are just brown people? Is that just they are poor brown people? What's more curious to me is the fact that a strike from an 'enemy' is so psychologically devestating compared to a random event with no author. In this country we have thrown our rights out the window because of an attack - but do people know how many people die in car crashes each year? Why don't we insist that cars be filled with balloons and set the maximum speed possible at 25mph? I'm amused as I've heard from some folks at homeland security that the vast majority of homeland security operations have been pursuing drug dealers. Bait and switch...

i think the difference is that enough people die due to horrible natural disasters like what happened this weekend, without people setting out to kill thousands more.

that doesn't make the tsunami any less terrible.

For me there is just too much death to take it all in. It has nothing to do with brown people. I didn't stop living after 9/11 either. The difference between mother nature and an attack is that mother nature couldn't have been avoided and premeditated violance could have.

I think that people should be rigorously tested and alot less people should be allowed to drive. Driving should be a privalege, not a right. But I'm also the person that thinks people should have to have a license to have children too.
