Today's thought is I'm going to die. Unless I take matters into my own hands I won't know how or when, but today, 10 years, or 50 years from now I will die. Hundreds of years from now I will not even be remembered. All the pain, all the issues I care about, everything I know will be history that few will care about, and then only in aggregate form. Is there a god and if so what kind? You'll find out or not exist. I hope it doesn't hurt.

It occurs that the only way to extend your influence into the future is to initiate a change in societal structure, such as passing a legislative action. If you create an environmental protection that will last far into the future, that may make a difference - but how relevant is that when worms feed on your dry brain? If there is reincarnation, you may yet regret all those disposable packages. I don't foresee life getting better, so reincarnation might totally suck. Offspring can be a form of immortality, but only in genetic sequencing. Your lessons fade fast.

Or, you could...well, I mean, you could...breed.

But you can brainwash and mold them to carry out your evil plans...

Life is a fatally transmitted disease as Dan always says...

You're only getting to existentialism now? What were you doing in high school?

Dope. I never was that bright either.

I've never really cared about my immortality. We are all born to die; it's only natural. Once I'm gone, who cares about what I've left behind? I certainly won't. I just hope that the people I loved who are still around will have good memories of me. That's all.

You could write a book, maybe? Art carries peoples names for years, and generally gets more recognition than being the co-backer/author of some miscellaneous piece of legislation.

But if you're not artistically inclined, that's not very helpful.

I want Armstrong's Theorem. That's my immortality. I've known this for about ten years now.
