Soft Cell was the first real concert (as opposed to classical, opera, or "to be discovered someday" bands and music) I ever went to, a couple of years ago in NYC. Afterwards I googled Marc Almond since someone said he was 45, and I had the "no way! His abs are like rocks! He must be younger!" response.

(There you go - my pointless tale that I now get to share because of this news. But I hope he's ok... he put on a great performance).

He was one of the first out performers, and was out in the 80s before such things were common. He did great work and teamed with Jimmy Somerville (Bronski beat) who was similarly influential.

is he 45 or 47? i know the 2 stories were written a few days apart, but that doesnt account for the 2 years in age difference.

*g* I heard he ws 45 in January 2003. So it seems reasonable (to me)that he is 47 now.
