I said I wasn't going to watch the debates, but I got sucked in while doing cardio after class. My verdict - they both lost. As I said before this nonsense, whoever wins the election, we lose. I think I watched to see what a non-aware amurichun would see...Like the conventions, the 'debates' were merely a re-hashing of the party lines.

Bush - surprisingly articulate. He came across as relatively sincere except for his constant prodding of "he changes opinions" at Kerry. That would have been plausible as a response the first 1 or 2 times, after that it's just hoping repetition beats substance. The comment about forgiving Kerry for being a Yale man...wow...as if the whole country didn't know he was a C student whose name got him into the school he barely attended. He won because he didn't completely bumble through anything, didn't misuse a myriad of terms...Eskimo...

Kerry - mean! The colossal mistake line was utterly pointless, and it's being seen as a highlight. He did do a good job of busting the president on the fact that Iraq wasn't where the terrorists came from. I was annoyed he spent so much time criticizing, bathing in negativity. I mean you have to to some degree, but can't you describe the things you want to do w/o trashing what was done? If you trash what was done, can't you do it w/o resorting to what were basically character attacks? He had some great lines, but ICK he started by thanking the U for having him there...I hate it when entertainers say "Thank you for being such a great audience" but a political leader? Ick.

An anti-Gay marriage amendment didn't make the vote after all, but please note that regardless of which party you support, on this issue the votes were very much down party lines. I don't mind conservatives of the fiscal nature, and I kind of wish we could vote for social and economic interests separately.

Tonight I realized I have made another friend, probably my only one at school. She's smart, hard-working, voting for Kerry, type-A, and completely bonkers. She's way jewish. I have a hard time figuring out when someone is a friend vs. an acquaintence or whatever. I like friends.
