So, I'm going to Chicago Wed, to do a hearing on Thur, and leave Friday. I'm thinking DOOD, hit a club as a stranger on Thur after the hearing!

Gothclublist shows:

EXIT - downstairs = biker bar, upstairs dancefloor - Thursday is BONDAGE-A-G0-G0. Squee! I get to be a complete cheeseball with no witnesses! 3.6 miles from Embassy Suites

Neo - goth, ind, new wave - more open and friendly (I'll take the surley bondage bikers thankyouverymuch) so there is a door #2 if door #1 doesn't work out for me and my mood du jour.

Anyone know anything about either of these clubs? Anything else I should know about Chicago?

My friend Duane goes to Exit all the time. He also mentioned another bar called Crow Bar. If you want I can hook you up with his email addy. Lemme know.

Another crow bar? Like our old jolly roger on the buidling thingy? That could be cool.

Thanks - I'm more likely to show up and be a stranger. I fucking hot, well-dressed, stranger. A "Who is that fine muddafugga" stranger. I love travel.

Yup...they've got a Crow Bar there...per Duane. Want me to hit him up for names of cool places to check out? :)

Nah - sounds like I'm already doing 2 clubs in one night. I might or might not do something Wed...but that's the night b4 the hearing.

I worked out plenty this week so whatever sins I commit will be sins I have earned! I'm thinking booze and food here...

Both were pretty good all the times that I attended them. Neo, especially, was the place to go.

Trouble is, that was a few years ago. :( So they might have changed. Doesn't sound like it though.

I'm frequently at Neo on Thursday nights and shall be this week. It's really about the only place I go so as for which is better over the other, I can't tell ya. I far too hermitty to be a good judge. However, I think you should come to Neo for my own purely selfish reasons. :)

The entrance to Neo is located down an alleyway. Clark and Fullerton Ave., on the southwest corner. (Same corner as the Ritz Camera.) Doors open at 10pm although not very many people except lame people such as myself come before midnight. (Heh, sue me. I have to wake up at 6:30am so I rarely stay out very late on weeknights.)

Pick up a copy of the Chicago Reader (free local paper). It comes out on Thursdays and the display ad for Neo in Section 3 is good for admission if you get there before midnight (else, it's a $5 cover).

I'm frequently using the far, short end of the bar that is close to the restrooms to hold myself up. I'm pretty much stapled to that corner since crowds of people tend to make me uncomfortable.

Aigh! How am I supposed to be a stranger if I know someone!? Hey - I'm all about the before midnight thing myself. I'm not cool enough to show up at midnight - also getting up at 6am for work.

I'm more thinking of the bondage-a-cheese-dip thing because they supposedly play harder music - but I'll come there just to bug you! Only fair - been reading only for how long?

Down a long dark alley? I'm about to get jumped, aren't I?

Ha! I'm sure you can pull off strange even without being a stranger.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure we've crossed our one year anniversary. Where's my ring, dude? ;)

The alley is an L-shaped one. The door really is back there. All the paintings on the walls and such don't make it really easy to spot right off if you're trying to pretend you're cool and walk up like you've been there a billion times. Stopping to hunt for the door, dead give away to non-coolness. ;)

Ring!? My god - you're all alike!

I specialize in non-coolness - it will not be an issue. I will radiate non-coolness, giving me a wide berth - a dearth of folk. Yay!

Cute-ish, but...not related to the topic? Also, bunches of the old goths are over 70k per year - not screaming successes per se but still pretty respectable.

1) Once your Chi-town contact chimed in, I remember the L-shaped alley. Quinn and I went with a couple of Chicago goths to Neo when we were up there some time ago. Over all it was a good space with an interesting "observation wall" encricling the dance floor.

I can try and hunt down those Chicago contacts again, though I can't guarantee anything.

If the gov't is per diem-ing you well, the House of Blues off the river (near the Loop) is worth the dinner, though not before the club.

Also - $70k+ is doing pretty well for all intents and purposes. It all depends on the debt level going in...and fewer goths are making that now ever since the "freak-bubble-fuck" after the internet bubble crash...though there are exceptions lawyer-boy.

Dunno - I'm not worried about going to a venue I'm comfortable with even if I don't know people. Ask me to go to a frat bar and it's another story.

Yeah I miss the blue-haired rich tycoons - but I don't miss the instant republicans either. "Gee, you were cool before you bought the roadster..."

Been to both.

Exit was a blast. They have motorcycles you can sit on downstairs and a chained in dance floor upstairs. Not in a good area, however.

Neo is fun, but I have heard it is going downhill now. Bars in Chicago stay open to about 4am.

See - Neo sounds more like synth-pop drivel, where Exit sounds harder - genuine. Chains = good
