Jun. 2nd, 2015 07:50 amI'm shocked to be in an indie coffee place in Gainesville, GA - there is a large arty population here which I'm enjoying. I'm here in a hippie place with my button down collar. Curiously there are two other attorneys...one female with western boots and southern draw talking on her iphone, while a classic coot is beside me with tan sport jacket, long face weathered with age, and a air of sleaze that would shine in Texas. I feel like I'm seeing a legal changing of the guard.
The place is gorgeous, with ornate tin ceiling, and in the back is an old vault...I guess this used to be the bank. Consistent with the rest of the destruction of old town USA, this town center mainstreet has converted from stores to art boutiques and independent restaurants plus a tattoo parlor or two.
I would like to live without the flies though...quite a few of them for a food place. Rustic I like. Dirty?
The place opens at 6:30 AM, and I'm not convinced the rainbow haired woman who got me coffee is happy with this hour, but the courthouse is nearby. Bathroom is for customers only...
(actually there seems to be a steady flow of button-down clientele so the courthouse may be active in this city of practically 40k)
No matter how independent or far into the country I go, everyone is always on an iphone and I'm the luddite with no phone / bb and a laptop...my typing on a laptop, in eljay of all things, is like breaking out a quill pen - without any hipster cred.
Related - this morning I wondered why my face was so dry...I scrubbed to get the flakes of dry skin off my chin. As I couldn't, and woke up more, I realized that some of my facial hairs have turned gray. Changing of the guard indeed.
