I’m pissed off but need to focus, but I’m pissed off.
Last night I attended a political meeting in my ‘hood where we met with government and political leaders, run by Muriel Bowser, about what they are doing with the property next to my house. However, outside groups - first Jews United For Justice, now a loosely associated co-group with roots in occupy, are “stacking the deck” by filling listservs with their extreme views, and using the moniker “affordable housing” to ask these leaders to ignore most residents in a 2 block radius of the property and make it “100% affordable,” which ranges from homeless shelter, transitional housing (from rehab/homeless), to public housing. We have Park Morton a half mile from where I live already, and it’s famous enough to be in the news. The “projects” model of addressing poverty has been largely abandoned because it is a disaster for the residents of the projects (and the surrounding community).
So these white kids come in, sadly they literally smell, with a smattering of seniors, and push their views in a place they don’t live, while calling us NIMBY neighbors. They yell, accuse, ignore data, and fill the air with empty buzzwords while never presenting realistic or specific solutions. Of course the race card was played, sometimes softly but at the end it was yelled outright.
I’m even more mad at being a defacto leader. I’m no leader and the most likely to knock some fool out. Plus the idiocy is really annoying me - I LOVE my neighbors, and my block, and am making more friends on further and further blocks. I want to be part of this community, but at the risk of...man I’m already dead set against the “newcomers,” by which I mean those who don’t live here. I just wish more people would do something, and by people I mean people who fucking live here.
Man you'd think I would support charity groups, advocacy groups, and occupy. I did, I do, and I have - but these idiots are pissing me the fuck off. I guess the criticism of their rhetoric failing to make sense on application is valid. I just can't get over the irony of a bunch of young white kids coming into our diverse neighborhood, trying to force their agenda in our homes, then calling us racist when we resist.
