My flight was delayed twice from DCA to ATL. In ATL my outbound flight was delayed from 5 to 8:20. I sat by the area from 7:45 on through 8:45 or 9 when they admitted the flight was cancelled. I couldn't help but notice that the plane was siting out there dark with snow on it.

I was lucky compared to some, booking for 12:10 or so tomorrow; others were looking at 7:30 pm. However they reported no hotels were open. No problem, and I called our government travel service. They helped me rebook the car, but also couldn't find a hotel. They told me to use the delta phone and get a hotel and a higher rate. Well, I used the delta phone and they got me a room 7 miles away for $60 nonrefundable. No problem.

Only in a first of it's kind adventure, I had to wait in line for a cab...only the traffic was so snarled cabs stopped running. I waited over an hour and a half before throwing in the towel because the line only moved when people gave up and left. I worried that even if I got to the hotel I wouldn't be able to get back to the airport and through overloaded security.

Nice thing about having slept in the airport is not feeling so freakish - everyone is here; men in suits, families with children, it's across the spectrum.

It also sucks holy shit splatted goat sacks.
