Jan. 9th, 2014 06:34 amI used to buy godiva each year when it went on sale for 50% off. Over time, I began to question whether it was worth it even at that half off level (which is still like $1 a truffle). I don't believe people who snub godiva for being "as bad as hersheys," even though I can tell you some of the ingredient and flavor flaws. It's good chocolate overall.
Or it used to be. I've found more and more better alternatives for the price. Godiva has been upping their price, adding more fake quality levels as they bling their boxes even more while adding more whitman's sampler / russel stover drugstore level foil wrapped monstrosities to their line. Curiously the hershey pot of gold is likely better than the lower godivas at 10% of the price. Sees candies are spreading full-time stores from CA, and they finally came down to earth on their shipping prices (plus they opened a store, full year I think for the first time, in Tyson's - formerly just a holiday store or stand). Their truffles are maybe 50 ยข each, though they NEVER discount or have sales. I'm far better off with the full price sees truffles than the half price godiva.
I kind of miss the holiday indulgence and the arrogance of wolfing down "godivas," but I've moved to more a 2 truffle a day habit compared to buy a box and eat a pound a day until sick like I used to. Really I'm still sore that the lindt outlet store closed - it's like I was in a southern town and the only gay bar closed.
The only...gay...chocolate bar.
(in other news I'm 92% done with diminishing sick symptoms, working big time, and spending hours on the new home project which is kinda wearing and freaking me out - yay chocolate)
