Somehow this is the thing I keep choosing to write about.
NEVER EVER DO ANYTHING YOURSELF

I am contacting you on behalf of American Standard Brands to deeply apologize for the dissatisfaction with the Champion 4 toilet you’ve purchased. I see you’ve noted that you noticed there are black marks on the outside of the bowl under the porcelain glaze? It also appears that under the rim the glaze is melted/slide down when created?
If there is anything we can do to accommodate you please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-442-1902. Follow the prompts for consumer/homeowner then technical/warranty. We can get you a replacement bowl if needed for the defective one.
We would like to ask what we can do so that you may remove your negative review from the Home Depot website. We would like the opportunity to make things better.

Good morning:
I greatly appreciate your email. I tried to call the number but it played a long series of ads / information tapes and I am not patient enough to wait for the menus that may follow. If at all possible I'd prefer to communicate via email, or if you could provide a direct line or extension I could call that and presumably bipass the menus. Also feel free to call me direct at NUMBER, though I'm about to return to the store.

I've been discussing the matter with Home Depot, who offered a discount/partial refund. The problem has been the version I purchased is no longer in stock, as all the new toilets are the higher height and I would have to pay an additional $55 to ship to my home. They suggested I buy a new one, install it, and then they could refund.

I would greatly prefer to replace the bowl that is 15" rather than the new 16.5". I have no use for an ADA compliant bowl when I am not disabled and live on the 4th floor that can only be reached via stairs.

However I literally just bought a new one, though it was higher / ADA compliant and used 1.28 gpf instead of 1.6, and was about to install it when I discovered it has a lesser version of the same defect. It too has grooves/lines at the point where the inside bowl connects with the rim. It's not as bad as my "melted" one, but it does have air gaps / sharp ridges on the inside of the bowl. I didn't see this in the store - I didn't think I'd have to inspect so closely twice.

I'm open to suggestions on how to address the matter and how to communicate. However, for now I'm going to take this back to the store as I've already spent 2 hours just getting the thing here and up the stairs. I just can't spend another full day on this project.
