"Oh this is wonderful - this is an opportunity! How fortunate! You see, you're here serving as an intern in an office, and subject to many different experiences from which to benefit. This one, if I may be so rude as to interrupt, gives you an interesting pespective to analyze. See, this employee has just approached you and noted that several people have asked her, a government employee in the office paid to work, to perform various duties. She has then presented a series of arguments about why in each case there is a counter-argument for performing that work, and suggested strategies to present for each.

I did not reference the fact the speaker was a post-retirement-age secretary, though the link of the speaker and career peak was tempting

Now, I'm sure that you are exposed to a lot of different assignments, personalities, and strategies for how to pursue your career goals. I'm not the type to suggest one particular course over another, and only you can best determine how your interests are served by which strategy, but I just can't help but point out that this particular course is a very interesting one. I wish you the best!"

Yes, I once again mocked the secretary, in front of her, calling her on talking trash to the intern and without saying it, suggesting that all these people asking her to work (the other admin staff) were in each case wrong and that there were reasons not to perform each and every duty she was asked to perform. The two people in question will do anything you ask, from issuing mail to moving furniture - no task is too hard or too menial. So I have to point out that this lazy cunt is sucking up a paycheck and spending virtually all of her energy avoiding, and often creating, work. The real problem lies in her supervisors not addressing her conduct and performance problems, and the morale problem this creates when we have 2 hard working people rewarded equally to the walking speed bump in the office.

Dear facebook - you migrated my pictures? Is that one of those things I could have read about in updates?

Edit - sigh, right on cue another employee just called me asking for help because she was assigned a task of conducting legal research. Her response was a series of complaints about "Why is a lawyer asking me to do legal reseach?" I offered to help, but noted that it was an opportunity - it's high level work which you can site as a performance example. I guess I'm turning whiter, more mainstream, with experience (age?) as I find my perspective turning to the organizational one vs. the lamenting self-perceived-as-oppressed perspective.
