Turmoil - not my business?
Jul. 9th, 2011 12:34 pmLast night I woke up in the early morning hours to the sound of a man crying. I have some azn neighbors - nice though I don't see them much. I heard a male voice, upset, and crying - the most horrible kind, broken loud outright sobbing. I heard words, and her crying too. It was bad - death in the family, I'm leaving you, something that was horrible. They both talked, they both cried, no idea what was going on there but it sounded horrible.
I remember choking up when I spoke at my dad's memorial. As a child I tried to be manly, and a biproduct of that is the habitual cutoff of emotion including that which makes you cry. It's still in there, but it's mostly beat down except in the rarest of circumstances. I saw my younger nephews watching me, and I wondered what kind of example I set for them (or if they considered my behavior at all).
Animal cruelty?
Weeks ago I noticed some dick with a doberman that had bandages over his ears; I assumed it was from that outdated "docking the ears" surgery. The bandages had blood. A while ago I saw a guy doing pullups on a tree branch in our park beside his dog, a doberman. A few days ago I was walking to the gym when I saw a guy grab his young doberman and slam him to the ground as if he did something very wrong, and the dog yelped in either fear or pain (or both). I stared at him, obviously, and after he finished playing top dog he played with the dog affectionately. TODAY I was walking up the sidewalk and saw him again -
Black tank top, cammo shorts, fairly muscular - like me but leaner and taller by 4-6 "
with his young doberman and a mini-doberman (imagine a dober-pug). He walked with the dog on the leash with maybe 2" to spare, and at no perceptible misbehavior he kept stopping and holding the dog still as if punishing him. He seemed to admonish him each time a person walked past him.
As I walked towards him I looked at him; he made eye contact as if challenged. I didn't break eye contact (as is my habit) but smiled and said "How ya doin?" He said alright, thanks, looked away. I stopped as I passed him and looked at the dogs, said they were a cute pair and he laughed. The guy was sending every creepy signal I knew - he's the guy you see on cops with a bloody girlfriend; a chip on his shoulder and a power fetish dangerous to anyone he can overpower physically.
Question: other than waiting for him to try to beat my ass for sticking my nose in his business, what can I do for the poor dog? Is strict obedience of a dog grounds for cops or animal control? If I confront him verbally, besides being likely in an altercation, will it just make things worse for the dog? If he isn't hitting the dog and it isn't being injured, what protection is there for the powerfreak owned dog?
