Jun. 12th, 2011 12:27 pmIts' the internet - where my opinion about the club I went to last night matters! Last night we went to RUIN and were disappointed.
Good: space was WEIRD, in Koreatown, you walk up and across a scaffold on the roof to get in, then have a huge main floor where the music was booming so loud the ancient windows were rattling. The other half of the outside was open for art and smoking
kitten just fell off my shoulder but luckily my leg was there to grab with his stabby little hands to keep from hitting the carpet
the back room (scheduled for "fetish play") was big and lit red with many interesting chandeliers, including one hanging from an industrial pulley. The dance floor was lined with tables and chairs - comfy - overall the place was just pretty. The music was unabashedly swirly belly dancey kinda goth (I wasn't really getting much of the gothity goth though, or old school much). People dressed interestingly. Resident camera girl asked before taking pictures and was very nice about nothankyous.
Notsogood: Kid you not - paid go-go dancers. Taking tips. I mean two of them were really good dancers (the other was kind of a mystery in a few ways not worth explaining - I suspect she was trying to work her way up?) but either I'm misinformed or they're working for pay. In a goth club. The music was kinda weak, lacking transitions and while the variety was nice, not one song was really anyone's fav. The drinks were very fucking weak and overpriced - including specials on the website not present in the club. Weak. The fetish room (I didn't really go there once they started, but you could see from the bar) had some really routine looking light activity that didn't inspire - to the degree I'd rather watch something in bound.
I'd go back, but I'd pregame and not expect much. Strippers? Really?
