Feb. 4th, 2010 06:11 amQuestion for the more resourceful: how much snow are they calling for? I now hear it starts at noon and will range from "significant" to "blizzard." Define your terms!
Tomorrow: Scattered snow showers with snow becoming steadier and heavier late in the day. High 37F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.
Tomorrow night: Snow likely. Low 31F. Winds NE at 15 to 25 mph. Significant snow accumulation possible.

I thought I heard "24 inches" but now the tv just said "over a foot" which to me is no big deal. Is it 1 or 2 '?
Lords of the Realm II is the game I still play, you can download it here (for a fee) http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/lords_of_the_realm_royal_edition This is exciting to me as I am having trouble getting the game to work on windows 7, and this claims to work in vista.
I hate VD, I really do. I am happily partnered and I remain full of disdain for the holiday. Couples don't seem to like it - slinking through a sense of obligation, while single people are often feeling lonely when the absence of a traditional partner is highlighted. On the plus side however, a very big plus for 1/2 priced chocolate of all calibers on 2/15! Now _that's_ a holiday.
DOUCHEBAG
Why did I post about something relatively minor that I did? Because I, like many, sometimes slip into identifying as "not a douche" and categorize others as "douchebags." Now that's not a bad thing - I'm a fan of categorizing people (with room for gray areas). However, it's too easy to move from the behaviorally based categorization into a class-based system. That's to say, just because you're not a douchebag generally doesn't mean you might not do something douchey today. Someone who has always been a douche will probably always be a douche - but don't close the door on them. Let today's douche reform and be a decent human - if they act like not-a-douche, then they are not a douche.
Douchebag is a behaviorally based term, insulting people who are arrogant, obnoxious, and generally seem to take pleasure or pride from dicking others over. Not being a douche or being a douche is not a label you earn and retain, it's something you are given as a label based on whether your behavior sucks or not. DO NOT FALL FOR THE TRAP of being a douche, and then coming up with post-hoc explanations of why your assholish behavior is somehow justified or "for the betterment of all." Don't do that "survival of the fittest" argument in an industrialized society. Just be decent so you never have to hide or explain your behaviors. Don't BE a douche.
I caught myself BEING a douche. Instead of explaining away or justifying my behavior, or even keeping it a low-key secret so non-douche-fans would like me despite my secret douche behavior, I aired my doucheness and committed to reform. Now I'm being smug about how morally superior I am...sigh...which is kinda douchey too. Shit.
